Based on his previous harassment of the same reporter? That whole organization needs a lesson in discourse. That guy should never work again in any baseball capacity, the conduct across the board from Luhnow on down is deeply troubling. Inexcusable.

Some would argue that Taubman was told what to say (lie) in his defense. Either way, I imagine that after his suspension, he will be picked up by someone interested in replicating the Astro way. Its the Millennial thing to turn and burn in this day and age. Fortunately baseball is all about second chances.

The whole thing is terrible, and he will likely never be hired again. Luhnow should be suspended as well. The fake apology, the spin...it's all disgusting.

I will say his about Preller.......He went against the conventional wisdom and we shall see if it works out. Just a couple of points. As far as his hires and talent acquisitions it has been some hit and a lot of miss with AJ Preller so my confidence in the guy is ebbing. I don’t see a baseball prodigy with dazzling insight, just another schmoo who could be replaced with dozens of other baseball guys. His faith in his own SP prospects has led to a ton of losing baseball. In AJ Preller’s world, a staff of also rans (like this years rotation) can routinely defeat the veteran ace staffs of the Dodgers and Nationals. He really seems to believe that.
Last season’s meek collapse during the second half has evidenced this team’s many shortcomings. What’s next? Built to win in 22?

Baseball doesn’t always work this way. There are too many X factors, guys get injured and in the frequent case of the Padres don’t deliver on the field. Is Gore going to even be part of the staff and if so, will he be Walker Buehler or in more Padre like fashion another guy with a 4.50 ERA and hittable stuff? Plus there are numerous holes/areas on the roster which need to be upgraded..... The trade/free agent shopping list should have the following positions on it: Catcher; Hedgy simply can’t hit major league pitching, and I’m not sold on Mejia’s receiving skills. Keep one and get a solid MLB catcher as the primary guy. Second Base; I would trade Urias now while he still has some value. Use France as a backup and get a good 2nd baseman. Center Field: I’ve seen enough of Margot, he is very marginal. Starting Pitching: Once again TWO established veterans, a 1 and a 2 or 3. Fill out the rest of the rotation with Paddack, Gore, Quantrill, Lamet, Lucchesi, Richards or whoever. Middle Reliever: There is room for improvement. We shall see what Preller can assemble. The price for Kluber might be more reasonable this year. Syndegaard?

If the new guy does not get off to a decent start, (say .500) then he will probably be replaced after one Season or maybe even at mid-season by Bruce Bochy. I think Bruce would have been the pick if he wanted to manage this year but he doesn’t. All indications are he would manage the French team in the World classic, take a short break and make a decision next year. Get ready for the train wreck at the beginning of the season.

The price for Kluber might be more reasonable this year. Syndegaard? Yes, Gore is going to be a part of the staff. Not a mystery there. The best pitching prospect the Padres have ever had. That said, they won't be reliant on him. He doesn't need to be Buehler, he needs to be MacKenzie Gore. He will be in the ROY conversation, the stuff is just too good. Chris Paddack is who you want to make a Buehler-type jump in year two, free of innings limits and with a year of absolutely clean health under his belt. I would trade Hedges, I'll leave it at that. I absolutely would not trade Luis Urias. Way too much upside in the bat and he's just 22 years old. Leave the swing alone and let him do what he does, make elite contact and be an OBP threat consistently while playing very good defense. Could not disagree more on Margot. The Padres have butchered his development. He's a top 10 defensive outfielder by most every measure, he just needs a full season of AB's without running Myers out there and disrupting the process. He's a 3ish WAR center fielder over a full year. MAYBE you bring in a left handed center fielder to platoon, but if you improve the corners, Margot is fine. They don't need two pitchers. They need a front of the rotation type and then there is more than enough to fill out the rotation. Internal development with guys like Lamet, Paddack, Gore, etc is what will make this team really click. Unless you can get an absolute steal of a deal in a trade, just focus on one guy. You can get to at least 80 wins on internal development. Machado bounceback, a full year of Tatis and a Paddack ascent into that 4 WAR category is likely worth 7 or 8 additional wins by itself. Lamet's development is probably worth another 1.5 bump or thereabouts. So find another 7 or 8 wins through trade and signings, using the absurd amount of depth Preller and Chris Kemp have put together. Going to be a really fun ride.
