Best candidate available please, not best friend available. The owners are spending millions of dollars, that should merit some influence on the hiring. Best candidate available is extremely subjective. Proven winners vs fishing buddies. This shouldn’t be a tough call.

"Proven winners" don't excel in every situation, since there are so many variables outside of their control when it comes to payroll, ownership and so on. I want the best fit for the job, someone in player development circles that can take minor league premium talent and have it translate.

He did have success with marginal pitching staffs, his teams crushed the long ball. My point is there are still better candidates out there. I want someone who knows how to develop and manage pitching staffs which will be crucial with the current personnel in the minor league system. This franchise isn’t going anywhere without pitching (3 or 4 nasty starters), something the Padres have never had. I imagine a decision is coming soon, however Incase you aren’t getting it... Bochy>Washington And that’s a fact.

A fact that has zero relevance. Nice. Ok, it looks like we agree. Maybe, but I don't think Boch is a good fit for the team. He already turned down the job, so, it really doesn't matter.

It is the most homerific of takes to pretend like the was the best call. I agree, give him a shot, but if we’re not in the playoffs in 2021, can this dude and preller and bring in someone, anyone who has successfully run a MAJOR league club. Not some summer league or double a outfit.
Signed, a 30 year padre fan

Not saying he would take the gig, but Boch would be the best thing that happened to this club since boch left Not even close. Not sure what your credentials are to pontificate with “not even close” over and over again but I’ll bite. Please, do tell me what we have done better from a win loss perspective since Bruce left. Andy green? Bud black when we got absolutely smashed by the cardinals in the playoffs? Hope for prospects? I’m as big of a padres fan as the next person, but I do hope you have something constructive to offer other than your opinion on why this “might” be better than before

Sorry should have said or when we got smashed. Impossible to compare across multiple ownership groups, at least one of which that had zero desire to win. The game has evolved and Bochy isn't a developer of young talent. He did a great job in San Francisco with tremendous payroll and resources, headed by a smart and savvy GM in Sabean and an ownership fully invested in winning. He isn't a great fit for this particular roster.

I’d take my chances with Bochy over rebooted Andy green any day. Just my opinion.
