Now that one series remains in 2019, I did a little digging to see what I could unearth about the season, especially more of the 2nd half. Pitching was a strength, even with the limitations in place that the organization installed. Padre pitching since July 1st compiled 7.8 WAR, good for 11th in baseball over that time period. Unfortunately, the offense produced a whopping 3.8 WAR, 26th in baseball over that same timeframe. Realistically, getting the offense to league average while further enhancing the pitching is probably the course to take. Too many offensive holes to fill, but pitching should really shine next year with a restriction-free Paddack, the arrival of Gore and the offseason shuffling to acquire a frontline arm. Getting closer to the top 5 is paramount.
