It's official. Tingler. I'm disappointed, I wanted Wash. But, I'll keep an open mind. Personally, I get no "tingle" from this hire.

I'm glad Fowler stepped aside. Preller has to be able to hire his choice, period. Social media is melting down, as expected. Tingler has a phenomenal background in player development, front office experience and has been in a dugout on multiple staffs. Extremely well versed in Latin America, fluent in Spanish and should be able to help the younger players. Now, build him an elite staff.

This is either a solid decision for Preller or his ticket out the door. As a Padre fan I certainly hope it’s the former. Can’t afford another major mistake!

Tingler will probably get fired mid year along with Preller. It's a no win situation. Not enough major league talent on the team.

I don't find it to be silly at all. I'm scared for this kid. It's reminds me of when the Raiders hired Lane Kiffin!

Ron Fowler needs to shut his mouth, too. Total blowhard.

If that jackass is really cancelling his tickets, I suspect there are underlying reasons for it and he is just using this as an excuse. Now, if he really cancels season tix over the hire, he's a true bonehead. NOBODY (not you, not me, not Preller) knows how good or bad Tingler will be as a manager. TBD. It's amusing to me how many fans just want to feel safe with the announcement of some retread like Buck Showalter or whatever.

For the sixth consecutive time the Padres have hired a manager with NO major league managerial experience.

"The fact Tingler has never been the voice of a franchise will continue to loom. Preller can point to this postseason’s inclusion of eight major-league managers who came into their respective jobs as rookies themselves, but most of those organizations had a recent history of winning. The Padres, by contrast, have not secured a playoff berth since 2006. As Green discovered, changing the culture in San Diego has been an unenviable task. Inside the clubhouse, sources said he struggled to connect with 25 different personalities. That became increasingly obvious as the losses piled up after this year’s All-Star break and a team led by Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer submitted embarrassing efforts. After Green’s exit, some players expressed a wish for a veteran replacement. Can Tingler, essentially the opposite, earn the respect of established big-leaguers while simultaneously fostering the development of the Padres’ upcoming talent? People who know Tingler say he has a more forceful, strong-willed personality than Green, an interesting quality in someone who, fairly or not, might be perceived as a simple extension of the front office. The same people, some of them major leaguers who have played under Tingler, tend to rave about his fearlessness and ability to relate to players from disparate backgrounds." theathletic.com/1322469/2019/10/24/why-a-j-preller-and-the-padres-decided-to-bet-on-another-rookie-manager-in-jayce-tingler/
