I sent in my cashiers check, it felt good to buy the helmet and know that I am helping freedom fighters in Nigeria. The crown prince taking the time to personally send me a thank you email, made my 2019.

images.app.goo.gl/oHVMDRYg8trivCi79Don Coryell with Dennis Shaw. The real Aztec helmet! The greatest show on Earth. BTW, Shaw spent 8 years in the NFL starting in 1970 playing QB for the Buffalo Bills, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s a fake. We possibly wore black helmets one season. When Claude Gilbert installed the Veer and switched the uniforms to white tear away jerseys. But that was 40 years prior to the SD spear logo. We still had angry Monty or stylized Monty at that time. And our red helmets had BLOCK AZTECS lettering.

This is hilarious. Someone took their child's pop warner helmet and stuck two aztec stickers on it. They didn't even bother lining the sticker up evenly.

I guess some people didn't get the sarcasm of my original post. Yes, this is a fake helmet and the person that is selling it is a fool.

I'll say it's "Rare", since it is the only one in existence. The SD Arrow with the white trim has only been used for about 5 years or so. I think I'll keep my $99, and spend it on two hotdogs, garlic fries and a beer at the next game played at the Rose Bowl.

We still had angry Monty or stylized Monty at that time. And our red helmets had BLOCK AZTECS lettering. The year Claude Gilbert was fired (I don’t remember the year exactly) the Aztecs came out in red jerseys, white pants, and black helmets. They went over like a turd in a punch bowl with the fans. I remember a home game midway through the season when they came out for pregame warmups in the new uniforms, then went back into the locker room and changed into the all blacks - except of course the helmets were still black. If I remember correctly they continued with the all black until the last game when it had been announced Gilbert was fired, and the team cam out in the new red/white uniforms as a show of support for Claude. I was an SDSU season ticket holder with my parents back then, about middle school aged, and didn’t even know NMSU existed.

The SD spear logo only came into being in the early years of 2000, and we were not wearing any slack helmets at all at that time.

Any and all eBay members on here need to contact the seller and ask them to remove it.

My favorite was the Faulk era red with AZTECS spelled out on the side.
PS - While I like our Calendar helmet a lot, the gold standard for Aztec-themed helmets has to be this one for the IFAF Mexico team. It's hard to beat good old Quetzelcoatl…
