So the King of Israel is ordering American companies ("I hereby order") to get out of China and come back to the US. Wow, there is an instant business plan for that! Of course the Market goes down 600 points immediately. Trump playing chess with the Chinese is like a 10-year old playing against Boris Spasky. Trump has no plan, but just tweets what ever comes into his head. The guy is fuggin nuts and even the sycophants and enablers must be panicking. I looked at the comments on this over at FOX news and even the cult was getting jittery (for them). I know, the World hasn't respected us for a long long time!! What do they think of us now? What do you think the Chinese think? How bout Putin? Trump will be treated like he has leprosy at the G-7. We are no longer respected with this nut case and he is taking us to dark places none of us have seen before. I agree with some pundits that he pulls a "No Mas" before the next election. Or, the Republicans finally get pushed to the edge and do an intervention.

Trump said the fed chairman was a bigger enemy of the people than the Chinese. The Fed rate is at 2% , it takes 5% to get out of a recession. Who's a complete idiot?

We will have a recession. Always will. Part of the cycle. But China has to be taken to task. Glad he is going after that goal.

The Fed rate is at 2% , it takes 5% to get out of a recession. Wait..WHAT?!? You think it takes the Fed setting the benchmark interest rate to 5% to get out of a recession? Just stop. A recession is a contraction of the money supply. There isn't a magic benchmark interest rate that solves the problem. Because we have fractional reserve banking system it is possible to expand the money supply via an increase in lending which is why the Fed drops benchmark rates, but how much the rate is dropped is entirely dependent on inflationary pressures. In the latest recession Ben Bernanke dropped the benchmark interest rate to 0%, AND went forward with quantitative easing, AND had some healthier institutions acquire a ton of bad debt in a way that delayed its negative effect on the money supply. Ben Bernanke stopped our financial system from falling apart and engineered the longest sustained period of economic growth in our nation's history which is still going on to this day. In the recession before that the Fed dropped the benchmark interest rate to 1%, and in the recession before that the Fed dropped the benchmark interest rate to 3%. Maybe the Fed had the benchmark interest rates set to 5% in recession recovery when Alan Greenspan was the Fed Chair but he used to augment expansion via purposely causing asset bubbles which had the US in a constant boom and bust cycle. Alan Greenspan was no Ben Bernanke. Regardless, you need to stop listening to whomever you've been getting your information from. They don't know what they're talking about and you're not doing yourself any favors by parroting it.

There are varying opinions regarding the fed rate and recession. The fed rate was not the reason I posted. You saw my original post. Do you think that the fed chairman is a greater enemy of the American people than China? Are we more, or less, respected globally than anytime in the last 50 years? Remember that's what the chosen one parrots (more). My premise is that our go it alone president is a nut job.

Do you think that the fed chairman is a greater enemy of the American people than China? Are we more, or less, respected globally than anytime in the last 50 years? Taking them in order: Who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powel or Xi Jinping? In the context of the American People, obviously Xi Jinping. In the context of continued American growth the question becomes an interesting one. Is America more or less respected globally than any time in the last 50 years? That is virtually impossible to quantify but it is important, as Machiavelli noted half a millennia ago, to recognize that respect and fear go hand-in-hand. I do think a sizable number of global leaders are wary of what Trump will do, certainly more global leaders than feared Jimmy Carter. I do not think America’s military prowess has diminished, but Obama was the Droner-In-Chief and fear is the proper response to the knowledge that at any time a missile could come through your window, or roof, or wall to kill everyone when there was zero opportunity to kill an American because the attacker was a machine. Trump hasn’t stopped drones but he isn’t close to Obama in mechanized killing or Special Forces killing of those deemed enemy combatants. Dubya started 2 wars. Clinton loved cruise missile strikes. Going back further than that isn’t fair due to America as a whole having more clout because of the fear the free world had of the Soviets. Make of it what you will. Economically the world is showing the Americans quite a bit of respect as the recent inverting of the bond yield curve showed. Traditionally this is a sign of impending recession, and it may be this time too, but the cause of this inversion was very different and noteworthy. The money piling in to the America 20-year bonds was mostly foreign. International investors were seeing trouble on the horizon and raced to the United States as the safe harbor. If you want to know what the world really thinks just look at what they do with their money. Culturally America doesn’t have the dominance it had in the 80’s and 90’s, but the rise in dominance of American-based Social Media more than makes up for any amount of influence Hollywood now has to share with China, Bollywood, or Latin America. As I started out by saying, respect is hard to quantify but as awful as I can see you want to view current events I think some context would help. Look at where we were 100 years ago: We had just got out of World War I which killed 16 million people in some of the most horrific ways imaginable. 7 million of those killed were civilians, and another 37 million people were wounded. Mother Nature told humanity to hold her beer while she unleashed the Spanish Flu Pandemic in 1918 which killed 50 million people. America was at the peak of The Progressive Era where KKK membership peaked, black people were being routinely lynched, and President Woodrow Wilson was showing the KKK propaganda film ‘The Birth of a Nation’ in the White House. Progressives, mostly California Republicans (yes, Progressive Republicans), were building a Eugenics program here in America that would inspire Hitler. Economically the US was about to enter the Depression of 1920-1921, which was actually deeper than the Great Depression. That was life just 10 decades ago. We’re fine. We’re so fine that we’re inventing enemies to fight out of boredom.

Certain "facts" were accepted. Today, I have friends who are teachers (high school and university) who have to deal with flat earthers, the moon landing was faked and 9-11 was an inside job. The president has said the most crazy $#!+ ever, like windmills cause cancer. Haha, very funny, but that kind of thing has an effect. putting non scientists and industry insiders in charge of our environment and on and on. The dumbing down of America is sad to watch. If you are familiar with the cult film "Idiocracy", no one is laughing anymore.

The phenomenon you are referring to isn’t a dumbing down of America. I think the anecdotes you mentioned are owed to a much broader and more dangerous issue. Belief in the American Social Contract is disintegrating. Specifically what I’m saying is that society is more and more refusing to recognize the legitimacy of authority. You can’t trust the President, but you also can’t trust his opposition. You can’t trust the News Media. You can’t trust the Police. You can’t trust Churches. You can’t trust corporations. You can’t trust community organizers. You can’t trust Academics. You can’t trust that entertainment isn’t just a veneer atop a political agenda. Women can’t trust men. Men can’t trust women. No one can trust white people. It is about to get much worse because the improving Deep Fakes means people won’t be able to trust their own eyes and ears. My fear is that people will begin to only believe in raw power because you have to believe in something, and power can be demonstrated.
