If Tatis bats leadoff for his entire career he will probably break Ricky Henderson's record for most homers to lead off a game (75?). Rickey Henderson's career records in order of how impressive. 1. Most unintentional walks 2. Runs scored 3. Stolen bases . . . . . . xx. Most lead-off home runs. You are correct though. The only other chance FTjr has is #2 which would be incredible. Note: #1 is most impressive because Henderson is the last player any pitcher wanted to walk because of #2 and #3. One of the silver linings of my parents divorce is that my mom moved to Oakland and so I got to split time watching in person two of the top five players of the era (Ricky & Tony).

Rendon had 4 hits yesterday to pass Tatis Jr. He is 6th in the NL with a .320 average.

You are correct. I was using baseball reference and didn't realize they hadn't updated his stats for that day. That's pretty exciting that he will be listed tomorrow. I am hoping he continues his batting streak having a long hitting streak will help Elevate his status toward Rookie of the Year honors. It's going to be tough for RoY, with Alonso hitting like he is for the Mets, and the fact that they are relevant in the WC race. A batting title might help Tatis Jr's cause, but as long as Alonso stays healthy, the RoY award is his to lose. Fernando is the favorite.

As long as Alonso stays healthy and keeps hitting home runs, and the Mets continue in the WC hunt, along with a case of East Coast Bias, I would think Alonso would be the favorite. But I hope you are correct.

But I hope you are correct. The Mets aren't in the wild card hunt because of Pete. Last 28 days, he's hitting .195. ESPN has Tatis as the favorite, he's the favorite at the offshore books and most writers, at least from what I have seen, have Tatis at 1.

But in the month of August, Alonso has a higher average than Tatis Jr, more HR's, and the Mets are 9-2. Again, I hope you are correct. Alonso soiled the sheets in July, but he seems to have turned it around a bit this month.

I assume he will win it because of the media market he is, but I only care who the better player is.

Perhaps Tatis Jr is hitting a bump in the road at the plate this month like Alonso did last month. Regardless, I think Tatis Jr will turn it around. The fact that his defensive plays keep showing up on ESPN and MLB Network also work in his favor. I would like to ask 100 Mets fans that if they had a choice today, who would be their pick--Tatis Jr or Alonso?

The thread I posted includes a guy who thinks that Alonso is a better defender and could play shortstop.

I like the guy who says that Alonso has the most hits of any rookie. 109 in 496 PA's. Tatis has 104. In 368 PA's. I think the only way that (as things stand today) Tatis Jr doesn't win RoY is if some voters hold against Tatis Jr the fact that he missed all that time in parts of April, June, and all of May. Tatis is the better player.

It's in that Twitter thread with Mark Feinsand. Most Met fans are delusional, arrogant and borderline insane. They think they have a better core than the Padres, for example.

Tatis Jr leaves the game with a back spasm.
And the Padres struck out 18 times tonight.
And come from ahead to lose 7-5 to the Rays.

My back went out once and it was the most painful thing I'd ever experienced in my life, felt like someone shiv'd me in my kidney - it floored me and I couldn't get up for ~15 mins. Agreed, backs are no joke.
