Fernando tatis jr needs 12 more plate appearances than 3 PA per game to qualify for having his stats listed. If he leads off every game he is guaranteed one extra unless the opposing pitcher faces the minimum. If, like today, the Padres have at least 9 left on base plus runs, he gets two extra plate appearances. I suspect he will qualify around a week from Saturday. It will be nice to see his name high on every list.

Fernando has a legitimate shot to win the batting title this season. He is only four points below Yelich. If he wins the batting title and has a higher slugging percentage than Alonzo, which he currently does, it would be hard not to give him Rookie of the Year.

As things stand right now, it really wouldn't be that hard to give Alonso the RoY award, especially considering that the Mets have played themselves into wildcard contention.

Agreed - I think Mets making the playoffs or not will decide it.

Playing in NY is also good for a bunch more votes, I reckon.

If Tatis bats leadoff for his entire career he will probably break Ricky Henderson's record for most homers to lead off a game (75?).

Most unintentional walks 2. Runs scored 3. Stolen bases . . . . . . xx. Most lead-off home runs. You are correct though. The only other chance FTjr has is #2 which would be incredible. Note: #1 is most impressive because Henderson is the last player any pitcher wanted to walk because of #2 and #3.

Ricky was also brilliant at working the count. Pitchers had to throw a lot more pitches in his ABs than they ever wanted.

Ricky was also brilliant at working the count. Pitchers had to throw a lot more pitches in his ABs than they ever wanted. Which is why #1. He was great at fouling off pitches. He was willing to take 50/50 pitch with a full count and risk a strikeout. 50% chance of a walk is a dam good gamble in baseball, especially with zero outs. He was also probably the best slider in baseball. His head first slide was a thing of beauty. He would decide which side of the bag to slide at the last moment based upon the fielders glove position.

With 5 PA today Tatis reduces his qualifying number from 12 to 10.

I noticed how similar Charlie Blackmon and Tatis' numbers are.
Blackmon: .324 .371 .605 F Tatis Jr: .326 .387 .607
Tatis being a shortstop and not playing in Colorado makes his numbers much more impressive.

With 5 PA today Tatis reduces his qualifying number from 8 to 6. Actually, he is closer than that. 3.1 plate appearances times the number of team games played: 116 x 3.1 gives you 359.6. He currently is sitting at 359 PA's. 4 PA's tomorrow, and be will be able to qualify to be listed among league leaders. Depending on what happens tomorrow, Tatis Jr should be around fifth in NL batting average after Sunday's games.

I was using baseball reference and didn't realize they hadn't updated his stats for that day. That's pretty exciting that he will be listed tomorrow. I am hoping he continues his batting streak having a long hitting streak will help Elevate his status toward Rookie of the Year honors.

It's going to be tough for RoY, with Alonso hitting like he is for the Mets, and the fact that they are relevant in the WC race. A batting title might help Tatis Jr's cause, but as long as Alonso stays healthy, the RoY award is his to lose.
