Why are these ladies smiling? Have they just recently been laid-off after working on the bullet train to nowhere and are now collecting unemployment benefits as they soak up the sun? Or are they recent transplants from the mid-west and claiming "Independent" status as we subsidize their education and medical care as they enjoy CA weather? Or perhaps they are children of liberal politicians and are going to expensive private schools as their parents push Unionized public school on the rest of California's parents? Maybe. ...Or maybe Victor Davis Hanson is painting a word picture of what he sees, when he looks out his window, from his house, located just outside Fresno. Mental note to self: don't move to Fresno. Agreed. And the desperate state of Fresno and area is, of course, all self inflected

A CNBC study came out, and California is last in the country for business friendliness, and 49th out of 50 in cost of living. NOW, that’s leadership.😜

Bottom line, liberal policies do not work. Gotta hit rock bottom before things will change. We will get there.

why dont guys like you understand the difference between coniferous forest, chaparral and sage scrub vegetation as it relates to fires in California? How bout population dynamics and construction in back country areas that are prone to fires? How bout bark beetle, changing climactic effects on forests and vegetation etc. Instead of throwing rocks from your safe house and listening to far right pundits, perhaps some research and education would help you understand the situation.

If your point is to say that random message board posters could better manage our state's wildfire mitigation and restitution policies, I could understand your point. But the failures of leadership/policy in so many areas of our state, claiming that the Democrats in Sacramento know what they are doing in this area (given the recent history) does not persuade. Saying something is "complex" is an excuse for failure that we should not accept.

I will have you know that Fox News hires some of the smartest, most distinguished intellectuals to help their viewership truly understand the often complex issues facing today's society.

Byyyeeeeeeee So what you are pointing out, is many people are leaving California because they can no longer afford to live there, but wealthy people are moving in because they are the only ones that can? Hmmmmm, I guess the wealthy politicians of California and the other elites in that state do not know their history. When you get to the point of the haves and the have nots and nothing in between, you have a recipe for disaster. "Let Them Eat Cake" I guess, right?
