They look so lazy and uninspired most of the time. Taking strikes down the middle then swinging it breaking pitches in the dirt. Seen it over and over again it’s hard to watch thinking they are learning and trying to get better. They look like they’re punching the clock and just going through the motions. Do you see anyone on the team adjusting throughout the season and getting better? Does it look like will Myers has changed his horrible approach to hearing? Nope, he still guesses on pitches and refuses to swing if he guesses wrong. Has Hedges changed his horrible approach over the past several years been in the organization? Nope, his swing still looks like a little Laker. Are the coaches trying to work with these guys? Or do they sit back and they’re afraid to hurt feelings because they’re supposed to be professional ballplayers?
Baseball is supposed to be about the little details and fine adjustments throughout the long season. Not sitting back and hitting cruise control all year long and saying it’s a long season in each game doesn’t matter individually. Why aren’t they trying to win every single game and adjusting night after night? They say they are professionals and they treat it like a job. Then why aren’t they getting fired like a regular employee would if they were just showing up every single day all year long and not doing their best? The ball players like to say that it’s a long seven months season. How about real employees that work 12 months out of the year and get paid a fraction of what the ball players do?
Then at the All-Star break, which is supposed to be a celebration with the fans, they make big announcements that they are unhappy with how little they’re getting paid…

Strange post. I do not agree with it at all, this coming right after the LAD series too?
Anyways, I will say that Austin Hedges might be the most limited offensive catcher in the league. But, teams seem to really value defensive metrics, and "framing" type sh*t, so I guess these guys that cannot hit a lick (see: Jeff Mathis) but do everything behind the dish well will have careers.

This is accurate. Especially true with the Padres who value Hedges as a game caller, the framing, the blocking, etc. He is also the 7th worst hitter with over 1,000 AB's in baseball history.

Mathis has to be one of those seven. Worst offensive player I have seen in my life time, that I can think of.

Important to note though that Hedges has started a lot more than Mathis.

Important to note though that Hedges has started a lot more than Mathis. Really? While Hedges has a higher percentage of starts to games played, Mathis has started 786 games as a catcher in his career. Hedges has only started 293, and I'm beginning to think Hedges won't be around long enough to catch the total starts of Mathis.

Hedges has 1,051 since 2015. Mathis has a career high 283 AB's, Hedges has eclipsed that number twice already.

Can the Padres afford to keep a catcher who struggles to hit .200? IMO, they can't.

When is last time the Padres had a catcher hit over .250 with 20 + jacks? Without looking it up again, my guess would be Piazza?

What's hard to watch is Andy Green blow through his short bench so quick, that he ends up having no position players left in the 10th inning. Perdomo ends up striking out with the bases loaded, and the game ends. Unfortunately, it didn't help that the bad Perdomo also pitched in the top of the 10th. Hadn't seen the bad Perdomo for awhile.

I thought he was going to be legit. I had thought Carlos Hernandez was a decent hitter, but I baseball referenced him and he was not particularly good. Sub .700 OPS, though he hit over .260.

Pizza hit 23 HRs during the year he played. Still the club record for a catcher.

Pizza hit 23 HRs during the year he played. Still the club record for a catcher. 22, including 20 as a catcher, 1 as a DH, and 1 as a PH. Piazza is the only catcher in franchise history to hit 20 while playing catcher. The best overall year for any Padres catcher ever was Terry Kennedy in 1982. 21 HR, 97 RBI, .295 BA, including 42 doubles. Benito Santiago wasn't too far behind TK's stats in his R-o-Y season in 1987.

If things continue as they are currently, by around 8:30 pm, the Padres will be in last place in the NL West for the first time all season. I didn't see them in the playoffs this year, but I didn't expect to see them in last place, either.
Not yet, as the Rockies tied SF in the 9th. GO ROCKIES!!!

But in the 10th, the Giants scored 4 times, and win 8-4, pushing the Padres into the cellar of the NL West.

In last...2.5 games out of second. The NL West is just so...average.
