I like the quote....if they don’t want to be here I don’t want them either. So when Zylan (basketball) transferred out then put up solid numbers, we didn’t want him. Ridiculous. When JJ O’Brien didn’t sign with us, then transferred back later because Coach Fisher still wanted him, that wasn’t a good thing?! Ridiculous Fisher helped build the program with transfers, athlete-students who didn’t want to be here at the beginning. We still wanted them.

He's just saying he only wants guys who want to be here. It wouldn't be good if they signed here but didn't really want to be here. When guys transfer back, that means they want to be here

Tough love. And the love goes both ways. Oldie Out It’s a great quote, especially in this “look at me” era.

Tough love. And the love goes both ways. Oldie Out It’s a great quote, especially in this “look at me” era. The quote is dismissive. I would have loved David Justice Jr receiving passes from Sears next year. Justice wasn’t happy. Did Rocky try to resolve it, who knows? But A local kid with great talent who had an offer from USC put his name into the portal, and Rocky said something again dismissive. “Asked what his reaction is to Justice going in the transfer portal, Long said, “I have no reaction. “It’s been happening all year this year. After four games, we’ve had about 25 players across the nation go in and say they’re going to redshirt and put their name on the portal. “I don’t think about it. I don’t worry about it. If the young man is unhappy or thinks he can do better someplace else, good for him.”

Justice was a great talent but he was 4th on the depth chart (and never moved up). Jessie Matthews is walk-on WR who battled to became a starter and earned a scholarship.

You're in charge of 100 plus guys and you don't have time to worry about everyone's issues. These are young men and the time for coddling is over. D1 football is tough and you have to really want it, or you won't be successful. If you don't, that's fine. The coaches will move on to someone who does. The team is more important than the individual.

The team is more important than the individual. Here is when Z left: "As soon as the season ended, Steve Fisher and I met with Zylan, as we did with all of our players," Dutcher said. "He expressed a desire to explore other options and look to transfer from San Diego State. We appreciate all Zylan has brought to this university, both in the classroom, as he is a very good student, and on the basketball court, for his contributions to the success of the program. We wish him well in his pursuit at another university." Rocky when Justice Jr: “I have no reaction” It’s telling the difference. And Coachrs need to worry about their players and their issues. It’s the job to have productive and focused players. If they have issues, coaches need to support them. Also very successful and driven players transfer so your quote about not wanting it in order to be successful is ...well you know.

I get what you're saying, but I think the situations are very different. BB has a much smaller roster, and Z was someone that played, but chose a different way to move forward. Justice never sniffed the field and it didn't look like he was going to anytime soon. Plus, Rocky has an old school mentality. In other words, if you want to play then stay and fight. Otherwise, leave and we'll find someone else. Caring about their issues also depends on what those issues are. A family situation is far different than lack of playing time.
