If you read anything on him, you'd know. He's been out nearly a year with an injury. Agreed, those arm chair dudes who want to see him drop 30, don't know what's going on or how hard this kid is working to get back from a lower leg surgery. Spends as much time if not not than Jordan putting up shots and getting his legs back. Played 10 minutes for the first time in a year went 2-3 from 3 and 2-2 from the line. Listen, we took a chance on Zylan and Malik, however, unlike them I feel he isn't satisfied with being just okay. Che wants to get back to greatness. Malik, didn't put the work in. Zylan is in the NBA, and left because we were playing him out of position and directly told him we would not play him where he saw his natural position to be. Malik is making plenty of money overseas, and was a victim of his own measurables. Dude broke the same knee twice and tore a meniscus before he ever stepped foot on campus, where he ended up the first person in his family to get a college degree and CHOSE to come back after his freshman season to be more than “just okay”, only to keep dealing with injuries. Only four players in his class outside of the Top 40 (where he was) were ever drafted. Say what you will but this trashing our guys just because we didn’t make a Sweet 16 or because someone didn’t put up good enough stats for you is bush league garbage. *edit to add: I don’t mean to attack you here, even though you’re better than taking ricochet shots at our guys. This happens A LOT on here and it’s dirty every time.

I get the intrigue, but I also remember very recently we constantly heard stories about players dominating practices, crazy athletic feats while training and amazing dunks during warm ups ... but then underachieve during real games. A top rated guy 4 years ago, why has he dropped like a rock since ... work ethic, injures, both? Maybe these constant publicity tweets of “hey look what he did in practice today” is evidence he’s improved his work ethic, I hope so ... buts he’s still constantly injured. I know you have to take chances on recruits because you never know who’s going to pan out, we’ll see. I hope he’s great, or at least pretty good and 8th grade wasn’t the pinnacle of his career. Bad take dude

Here’s what I am expecting. The freshman team and a player or two will give the veteran team all they can handle next year in a practice game.

Look at all the clip/stuff that has been put out about him recently. They are basically him and his coach/trainer in an almost empty gym putting in the work. He is just putting in the time rehabbing no posse, no flashy kicks, no latest fashion statement..... just playing ball putting in the time.
Say what you want about the guy (we are not there) but he seems like the kind of player that should and can fit in and help this program. The talent and desire seem to be there followed by the want to dominate at all levels. All kids start this way when they are a Big Fish in little pond but very few can carry it over to the next level Big Time college ball and beyond.

IH e seems like a hard worker and think should be even more motivatted joining a top 4 program. Nothings going to be given to him or any other newcomers.

To clarify, we took a chance on Zylan with a foot injury and he had to make up a semster of HS and a chance on Malik who as you said broke his leg twice before coming to school. But, Malik didnt put the work in to rehab as hard as others. No disagreement that they underperformed for us. I am not trashing anyone. Z is in the G League and Malik, I think plays in Greece, Che' has been putting the work in. This years team puts the work in.

So, are you then saying we should not target those players likely to be recruited by prominent P5 schools. In the neighborhood, that would mean not recruiting players that UCLA or Arizona have targeted. I do agree when it comes to players that feel they are the "one-and -done type" though that would include Winston Shepard and Pope. Both UNLV and UCLA tried that route and neither had much success with it. Jalen never fit that mold, it was only after his RS year that he pursued the pro option and it also appears he isn't there yet. I do agree with you, surprisingly, that you prefer to get guys who will spend 4 years here. But you do routinely dismiss players who don't show enough (in your standards) their freshman year and want to pull their scholarships. Development takes time. Not at all. I’m mostly agreeing with you. We’ve all known that players are getting paid. But even the worst offending schools aren’t paying every player. Reggie Bush, Deandre Ayton, and Chris Webber are the kinds of student athletes who get money. They aren’t paying every player on the team, in the rotation, or even in the starting lineup. Typically the $$$ has been used to convince an elite athlete to choose one moneyed storied program over another. these players were never going to choose SDSU even in a fictional clean bribery free college b-ball world. I think the model for us to follow is Gonzaga. Get one and dones, on the other end- grad transfers and not freshman. Supplemented by 3 star recruits with chip on their shoulder

And all of them must be committed to playing unselfishly as a team, LIKE the current Aztecs.

any follow up on how he did the last part of the season Best I can tell he only played in that one game where he had 10 pts. He isn't in the box score for any recent games. His HS is currently playing in the State tourney and are ranked #1 in Pa.

would guess our coaches have stayed in contact with Che . Do not want to push him - as rehab this past year is most important

Pennsylvania basketball is not a chump group of leagues.

Take it he only played in the one game this season - which is better then rushing him back early
Any other comments about rehab and thoughts for 20-21

Been wondering how the kid is doing. Looks like he is getting there. On high school line workout- 3’s 226 out of 300. Interesting footage from his Twitter account.

I believe we got Kawhi, Tapley and Pope because we stayed with them in spite of significant injuries. Would love it if he's anywhere these three. I'm hoping at least better than Chase and Malik, although Taps was good over a long period of time.

We got K.Leonard because we recruited him early before other schools were interested - he told the coaches that he would come here- then kept true to word and signed with the Aztecs . UCLA , USC , others tried to get him to change his mind but he said he was not going to go back on his word . Think his father was killed while he was HS . Was shot at the car wash he owned
Malik went on recruiting trip to Kansas but they selected another recruit that played his position . He decided after missing his junior and or senior year of HS that he felt comfortable with the Aztec coaches as they kept recruiting as others dropped off their recruitment
Think we also kept recruiting Tim Shelton even though he had injury problems .

All due respect to Fisher, but I think Pope could have shown us a lot more under Dutcher's offensive scheme.

CHE has the heart of a Lion. Hope he is 100% in the Fall, could add a scoring pop!
