I feel like we're forgetting about what Toronto has done for kawhi. the load management they did for him this year has been excellent ( Gave him the night off on all the back to backs - like 25 games). Saved him from getting another huge injury, if he goes somewhere where hes 'the man' and they don't have any other players there won't be any load management available. Just something to think about.
Plus If they win the championship how can he possibly leave ?

What drama? The choice is simple, sign a two year deal with Toronto or sign a long term contract with an NBA team in the U.S. As I've heard about the excitement the NBA has brought to Canada, I liken it to the "excitement" the MLS has brought to North America. So by playing second, third, fiddle in a foreign nation, you have a player on the south side of thirty, sidelined once already for an
extended period of time, with issues involving his previous team, and his personal behavior, that necessitated his removal from SAT. In essence, he's no Lebron James.
I do agree about Toronto, an incredible city where I've had the good fortune of seeing The Maple Leafs multiple times. Having also seen the Blue Jays during their championship years, it's still obvious who is the big dog in that city.
As hero worship can become prevalent on this board, I would remind fellow readers, following much fanfare, the other icon, pitcher named Strasburg, has had a rather unremarkable career. That said, given the inherent instability of a short term contract, I would personally rather see Leonard enjoy the stability of a long term deal with a quality NBA team in the U.S. to ensure his best years aren't behind him.
After an enlightening conversation with a buddy of mine, I'm beginning to think this whole unsettled issue post playoffs is his actual desire to stay "under the radar". This could be argued by his propensity to play on teams with mid to little markets, SDSU, SAT and now YYZ. (Yeah, I know, king of Canada, blah, blah, blah). As such, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised if he "never" puts on an LA jersey, or any other "big market" team. It will be interesting to see what transpires for him after the season concludes. After watching last night's game against the depleted Warriors, it dawned on me, if YYZ wins the title, they won't be subjected to having to turn down a visit to the White House.

He's going to the Clippers, and he'll do the commute thing from Rancho Santa Fe to LA similar to the Philip Rivers method. Jerry West will get his man, he always does. Kawhi will be "home" and ready to win multiple championships.

Most players go where the money is, and I don't know how much Toronto has, but you can bet that N.Y., LA has plenty of $$.

As I understand it, under the NBA salary cap rules San Antonio could have, and probably would have, paid him a lot more than Toronto was allowed to. Now, Toronto could, and you know they would, pay him something like $50,000,000 more over the life of the contract that any other team will be allowed to. I'm pretty sure that the contract money will be a minor consideration in his decision of where to play in the future.

JMO He wants a shoe deal with his brand "KLAW" and needs a big market to sell to. He has started a law suit saying that one of the shoe companies stole his trade mark. The Clippers have also tried to buy his brand & trade mark so that they can use that to pursue him to sign with them. He knows that he only has so many years to make large amounts of money and wants to set his family up so that they don't ever worry about money, especially his daughter. JMO
