There is a 0% chance ND would agree to a home and home with SDSU Why do you say that, did you ask their AD? Notre Dame was small time many decades ago, and only raised themselves up do to great coaching, and developing their players well. They do have a heart for teams that are not necessarily big name. How on Earth can you say ND was "small time many decades ago"....I guess 11 decades is many, but I'm not sure they even played football 110 years ago. They did however win their first National Championship in 1919....10 decades ago! To say they've been small time is about as far from the truth as you can get.

I was at that game and it was extremely disappointing . The Notre Dame Fans however were very nice. I didn't realize how rural it is. The big restaurant in the area was the local "Golden Corral". The parking lot was full of Amish Buggies and my Brother in law and I had the misfortune of being behind several large families in the buffet line. The ND fans were awesome!!! I met a guy who was buddies with Darryl “Flash” Gordon, the starting linebacker for their ‘88 NC team. He invited me to his epic tailgate party and got to hang with ND legends over the years. The tailgate was first class, all the fixins, free drinks and a blast. Those guys wanted to know all about the Aztecs and let me wear their NC Ring for a bit to take pictures with it!! It was the best tailgate of my life and won’t be beat as far as I can tell. True memories I will take to the grave.

Notre Dame has been playing football since 1887. Over 130 years. And, there was no Division I, or Div. II, or anything like that back in those early days. It was just college football then, and since there were not many teams to play they generally played teams close to them. And, it didn't matter who they were as long as you could schedule a game. Like in 1888 ND played the all tough Harvard Prep school and won. They played such Big schools like Kalamazoo, Albion, De La Sale, and Hillsdale in 1893. Yes, they won their first national Title in 1919 under the great coach Knute Rockne, but as I noted earlier it was not Div.I, just college football then. They played Army a couple of times for the NC in the mid- fourties, and lost the first meeting, and came back to win the second meeting with their new & devastating passing attack. Many considered that as their first big step into major college football because Army was so good at that time. So, they were in a way a small Catholic college, and just fought their way up to the big time. Also, in 1887 they played a total of one game the whole season. Very hard to put together a schedule then. So they played prep schools, high schools, and anyone they could get. It was basically small college schedules then.

Funny the Aztecs used to play MCRD and other non collegiate teams. Lates 50's and early 60's I believe.

Correct, we have played Riverside CC, U of Redlands, some wartime Marine & USS ship teams, and even a high school team or so back in the early days.
They were teams that helped filled out the schedule then. Every college team has done that.
