“Usual?” Meh, some players improve. Some players appear to regress when they are being asked to do more. Some get injured and never return to form. Others improve incrementally but without any drastic change. Here we have a thread about a player going into surgery and you have to post your usual negativism again? Give it a rest. He absolutely can't help himself, and shows his true colors over and over, while sometimes throwing the Aztecs a mild compliment to try and throw people off track. 99 percent of us know he's no fan at all. He's either NCM, or a direct clone of him. As a matter of fact, he's a bigger fan of NCM, than he his of the Aztecs. He's probably NCM with a different IP address.

Hard questions should be asked of the coaching staff and medical team for playing an injured player and causing further injury. This is getting out of control and some coaches have been held accountable. You generally don't get diagnosed with FAI until you have a labral tear. The tear is a symptom of the condition, not the root cause. He would not have damaged the bone any, FAI is a genetically caused condition. Correcting that is the biggest part of the surgery, not reattaching the labrum.

does he get the usual best second year improvement and development to be ready for the 2019 season ? Need a quality replacement for Jalen . What can he do basketball wise during the 12 weeks “Usual?” Meh, some players improve. Some players appear to regress when they are being asked to do more. Some get injured and never return to form. Others improve incrementally but without any drastic change. Not sure why everyone gets so mad about stuff like this. I know Guttersnipe can seem to be a bit "detached" at times and doesn't necessarily embrace all things Aztecs without some qualifications. But so what? Everyone on this board doesn't have to look at everything the same way. He didn't trash Arop or anyone in particular, he just said something that is empirically true. Get over it.

At least I, having had this procedure done, has added some actual facts to this thread.

This is going to really hurt the team, at least early in the season. Even in a best case scenario, he's going to miss a lot of practice time leading up to the season, and will need to work himself back into "game shape". I'd been counting on a big season from him, but I'll definitely have to scale back those expectations due to a probable slow start to the season, even if he's able to play early on. Someone else is going to have to step up and play significant minutes, and play well, at the 4 until Arop gets back to form. Hopefully, we can get a big man grad transfer who can fill that role.

This is a big loss. There were major ’s without the injury.

Even if Arop were healthy, who would have been his backup? The departed Chang? We're already on shaky ground at the 3 with Mitchell so somebody will need to play out of position to play the 4, which likely means Schakel. There's time for him to work on it and it may actually make him a better player there than at the 2. He's too slow to be a guard anyway. Meanwhile the S&C coach will have to get him stronger and put some weight on him.

If we don't get any more reinforcements for next year, we'll probably be going small quite a bit. Hopefully Joel Mensah can be a contributor.

nobody knows how long some one will take to recover from an injury . Would guess most of us were hoping that AG could be the guy at the 4 position . AG thought 4 to 6 months. So this makes the final decisions for the two remaining scholarships very important .
What can we expect from AG , Joel M , new freshman KJ , .... does Nolan come back or do Aztecs, add Yanni ( has been a reserve type player) what can we hope for from Jordan S and Matt M , can we get higher quality transfers or grad guys . We have not had the best of luck getting higher quality guys that play the 4 or 5

Bad news out of Mark Zeigler today from the SDUT. Down the back court: Watson + Hemsley, plus front court losses 6'10 McD + 6'8 Ed Chang and now 6'6 220lb Arop hurt and out 4 to 6+ months. No signing of a big player this spring. We need Nx2 to have a banner year - Nathan & Nolan averaged 30 minutes, together averaged 8.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 1.4 bpg (Nate was over 80% of blocks) but no McD replacement in sight (16 ppg + 8.3 rpg, 1.1 spg) In other words 58% of point scoring is gone; can Flynn, Feagin, Mitchell, Schakel, Narain + Mensah make that number up? How long will Arop be out? Will Johnson have impact, will Joel have an impact, will Pulliam play well & score and will Pope as a preffered walk-in get minutes? www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/story/2019-04-30/sdsu-aztecs-basketball-aguek-arop-hip-surgery

I still think the Aztecs will add one player. Homerism in the guise of optimism allows fans to believe that the Aztecs are set with just the returning front court below. If any of our conference foes were returning these guys would they make you nervous, at all? Nate/Nolan 8.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 1.4 bpg Aguek 3.1 ppg, 2.7 rpg in 14.6 minutes.

Interesting times here at the MESA, Which option is best? A) Do you take 2 grad transfers that help out the team next year and only next year. Not the strongest team as it sits right now. Will 2 grads transfers make that big a deal? B) Take 2 undergrad transfers (Cal, OU, OSU, KS....) guys that have to sit one year but have pretty big upside (dare I say, Potential!) and have a nice looking team the following couple years? (Also looking at Arop red-shirting next year, MAYBE) C) Combination of grad and Under-grad transfer. This could also active another player to transfer out opening up another scholarship giving them 3 to play with. D) Hold out all hope and save a scholarship for McDaniel's until who knows when. All these decisions and options are going to define this coaching staff real soon. Go Aztecs!

Arop posted this on April 24. That’s six weeks after the season ended. Why do they wait so long to do the surgery? By putting this off for two months, it’s probably going to cost him an entire season. That may be a good thing anyway.

Not a doctor, however my understanding is that they were waiting to see if rest would heal it without surgery.

Not a doctor, however my understanding is that they were waiting to see if rest would heal it without surgery. That, and surgery centers/surgeons are booked up months in advance. I would think and hope that sports programs, whether college or professional, would get fast tracked from a fan's perspective. However, from the time I was first seen by the surgeon for my shoulder surgery last year to the time I had the surgery was 3 months. Leaving the fan side of me alone for the moment, how would I have felt if the surgeon said to me, "Well, you know, we have this basketball player that really needs to get in before you so that he can get back on the court!". That surgeon had better hope that I am a HUGE Aztec fan who understands getting bumped!

My daughter tore her ACL and Meniscus playing soccer her senior year in high school and it took a little over 2 months after seeing the doctor for the first time to getting her knee fixed. Like you say, I'd expect a college athlete to move up to the front of the list but who knows.
