And for those that are curious, Robbie Erlin was optioned to make room on the 25-man roster for Avila.

And for those who don't realize look who's tied for the best record in the NL right now.
I should've put $20 down on them winning the pennant when I was in Vegas for the tourney last month - IIRC it was 100/1.

He did pitch in a winter league. He had a 0.84 era. He did well in spring training. If nothing else it's great motivation for the young man. He gets a first-hand taste of what he's working toward.

Yes. 20 innings, but he had good numbers for a very small sample size. And he pitched well tonight, but the BP soiled the sheets and lost his win.

After shaky beginning he pitched great! He did a great job holding the Diamondbacks to one run in the first inning after his horrible start to that inning. Walking batters with a six-to-one lead is a crime.

It is funny that Manny Margot was inserted as a defensive replacement but ended up winning the game with his go-ahead home run.

Meanwhile up in Lake Elsinore the Padres number one pitching Prospect had a great game.
Gore: 5 inn 2 hits 1 walk 7 Ks 0 runs.

Another debut-er with a 1.something ERA. Someone needs to do some stats searching, we have to be closing in on some kind of MLB record with debuts made in April/sub 2 ERAs. Pretty remarkable what these kids are doing.
