We would win the tournament - hands-down - if it was to be played at the T&M...
Unfortunately it's at the Orleans...so now it's game-on

That’s right they decided to move the dates of the tournament only. They were considering playing at the Orleans or MGM as well but decided to keep at the T&M.

The location hasn't, but the dates have: starting in 2020 the MWCT will be one week earlier than in prior years so as to not conflict with that huge construction convention that usually makes lodging FUBAR.

Not 100% sure, but I think that convention is only every two years... they shifted the dates in 2018 to avoid it and again next year. It wasn't a factor this year.

The MWCT has always been the week leading up to selection Sunday. That is going to change next year, it's going to be the week before (same as WCC tournament). I hope you're right though, I hope they go back to the usual week on the off years, better chance of better weather!

I hope you're right though, I hope they go back to the usual week on the off years, better chance of better weather! Just checked my calendar... it was the earlier week last year, so I think it's an alternating year conflict with that particular convention. Last year's MWCT was the same as always: the week leading up to selection Sunday (as it's always been). To my knowledge, next year will be the first time the tourney will be the preceding week (the same as the WCCT). For the 2020 edition of the MW Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, the entire tournament will begin one week earlier. The MW Women’s Basketball Championship will begin Sunday, March 1 and conclude Wednesday, March 4. The MW Men’s Basketball Championship will begin Wednesday, March 4 and conclude Saturday, March 7. This change impacts only the 2020 MW Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.
The decision to bring the tournament forward by one week in 2020 was influenced in large part by the CONEXPO-CON/AGG International Construction Trade Show, which will be held March 10-14, 2020 in Las Vegas. The international trade show brings more than 125,000 construction industry professionals to the city and dramatically impacts the availability and price of hotel rooms, airline tickets and rental cars.
With respect to the 2020 MW Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, the MW accepted formal expressions of interest from other cities interested in hosting the tournament – notably, San Diego and Phoenix – but has decided to remain at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. No decision has been made regarding future sites for the tournament beyond 2020.themw.com/news/2018/1/9/mountain-west-announces-changes-for-2019-and-2020-mens-and-womens-basketball-championships.aspx

Last year it was the 2nd weekend in March, this year it was the third. I may have to dig out my old laptop and check further back in the calendars.

Hmmm... maybe two years ago was when it screwed up the hotel situation and what I'm remembering (memories may be fuzzy... I AM getting older, and have consumed many, many Aztecaritas! ) is the discussions about shifting it a week earlier two years later (next year) or a 1 year move to a different site. Come to think of it, I think that was the year I started staying at my cousin's place instead of a hotel, so it could be that price and availability of rooms was what spurred that move.

two very likely difficult neutral court games at Orleans in Vegas . plus the road game in BYU . Wonder if we get another softer home schedule again- but we seem to stumble even with the softer home OOC games - Brown and USD this past year - Home CAL year before .

The NCAA Tournament in 2018 started on March 13, and in 2019 started on March 19. So you are right in that the MWC Tournament started earlier last year, but the timing between the MWC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament was the same because the NCAA Tournament started earlier that year as well. That is, Selection Sunday was the day following the MWC Tournament. Starting in 2020, Selection Sunday will be 8 days after the MWC Tournament final. So there will be a week of basketball where we are off and watching the other tournaments play out, instead of being on of the last conferences to finish.
