It is getting to the home stretch portion of the season. Does this team have another strong finish for this year? Can The Aztecs take down Nevada?

I'd love to see a really strong finish but I'd be realistically thrilled with winning two of the four conference games left against Nevada, Utah State and Fresno State. I'd almost rather lose big to Nevada in Reno and then lose in a much closer game in Viejas. That might give them too much confidence for the conference tournament. If we went 5-2 our last seven games, we would be in the top 4 and miss Wednesday's play-in games.
If we don't make it to either the NCAA or the NIT, I'd like to at least win 20 games.

I said prior to the season that I thought 18-13 sounded about right regular season. They would have to go 3-4 the rest of the way. I hate to count any win before it happens, but we will be big favorites against SJSU, so that's 1 win. I think we can and should beat BSU this Saturday. We're not the same team that met them in the first conference game. So, where is my 3rd win (so that I can be "couldashouldadamus")? Because we are a different team at Viejas I am going to say FSU. If we can somehow win one of those other 4 games, I would feel pretty good going into the MWC tourney.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It was a nice road win, but not necessarily a harbinger of a great late-season run.
That being said, yes... the team is certainly trending in the right direction... it would appear.

That would be the most likely win of the other 4 games. IDK, it's tough to win conference games on the road. UNLV's two home losses were to two of the top three teams in conference, and until last night we hadn't proven this year's team could win a conference road game. My guess would be that the line on that game will be pretty close and could go either way.

Yeah, but we just went out and did so last night! And, we did it even after CSU got the lead on us in the second half. This time instead of folding our tent the Aztecs just tightened their belts and went out and won it! That tells me that this Aztec team is putting together better and stronger play now. We may not beat Nevada, but it is 'One Game At A Time', and they have soitenly been playing much stronger in the past 5 games. I would not put anything past them. No better time than now to start playing Aztec basketball!

Our MW road wins have been against two of the worst teams in the conference. It's hard to get really excited about that. Our remaining road games are at UNLV, Utah State and Nevada. If we can snag one of those, it would be a real positive. Probably UNLV, I would imagine.
The exciting part of our improvement is our play at home. Boise, Nevada, San Jose and Fresno still have to play at Viejas. If we really are improved, we take three of those and maybe even upset Nevada for a sweep. That's getting ahead of where we are in the development cycle, I think, but there is some hope.
If we could go 5-2 to finish the regular season, and get in the opposite bracket from Nevada in the MW tourney, then we could work our way to the final. That might get the NIT to take a look at us.

If we do not make the NCAA or the NIT, do you think we will try to get into one of the two lesser tournaments? I'm sure many fans will say no. On the other hand, saying no would mean two out of the last three seasons with NO post-regular season action. That would not be a positive.

This young team most certainly has improved with age. I am most impressed with how Mitchell is maturing. So, we could well see a strong finish.

AzWm It's tempting to say the CIT and CBI are below us, and I think they're pay-for-play, but it could be good for the young guys to get tournament experience. If we reduce minutes substantially for Watson, Hemsley and McDaniels in order to benefit the freshmen, I'd be for it.

If the coaches think it would be good for the team, then I'm all for it. Otherwise I'd be happy for us to pass.
