Except for the fact that Trenkle was 329-34 from 1983 to 1993 at the College of Southern Idaho, which reached the national JC tournament eight consecutive seasons and won it in 1987. I'm not sure why he couldn't be successful here, but the above record would indicate he was a good coach.
From what I recall, the infamous Rick Bay limited Trenkle's recruiting territory due to budget cuts. He was destined to fail. I can't shake the notion that a winning coach like Trenkle came to a program that had nothing and gave him even less. Then he flamed out. Dutcher comes in with no record whatsoever and, given everything (except, perhaps, the money to hire better assistants) is doing nothing but ride the ship down for 800k per year. If the next few weeks go how I fear they will, and if next year is as bad as Ziegler fears it's gonna be.... They STILL won't fire Dutcher. And even when they do, Wicker does the hire. IMO? We're scrooomed.

We're scrooomed. It's par for the course. I can't believe how many times our past and present administrations have shot themselves in the foot. Overall, the presidents have not supported athletics as they should. Their hired AD's have made many bad decisions and lack of money is not solely to blame. Fisher and Rocky are bargains who have put us on the national map. If we put them on a 40 year progress chart they would be the spikes in their respective sport. A capable administration would replace them with coaches who could elevate us where they left off. I have doubts that this current one can. JMO

IMO, more than anything, San Diego State needs another Fred Miller for AD.

We're scrooomed. Although I'm by no means convinced that if Wicker was to replace Brian Dutcher, he would hire anyone close to the quality of Steve Fisher, neither do I think he's so destitute of historical knowledge as to repeat Bay's 2-time error of hiring somebody from the junior college ranks. Nor do I think he would be ignorant enough to emulate Jeff Schemmel and keep a list of potential coaching candidates and spend tens of thousands of dollars to hire a recruiting firm only to go ahead and choose an old buddy. A fellow Aztec has been trying to twist my arm to go to LV for the Mountain West tournament, his rationale being that even if the Aztecs go one and done, we can have a good time gambling, seeing a show and hanging out. However, in the eight or so years the two of us have done so, SDSU has never failed to get to the tournament final and a first-game defeat would surely put a damper on the rest of the weekend. Should I wait another couple games to commit or just throw caution to the wind and have faith that regardless of how the team plays down the stretch, they can pick it up in the tournament?

Need further evidence. Heading into last nights game we were second in conference in fg% defense and points allowed defense. I'd say we are improving. Offensively McDaniels has been a beast in conference after a
short lull in December when his high school issue was released. With the way he's playing I think he will move into the first round and now who could blame him for leaving early for the NBA. I think that
effectively negates any chance for us to land younger brother Jaden. Anyone know when he plans to announce? Heard a couple top 5 prospects in the nation announce in the last few days.

I agree that facets of the team are getting better. They look like they're focused for longer times on defense. And there were at least three or four times last night when someone had a fast break of 1 or 2 of us against 2-4 of them and they pulled it out and started over. I almost dropped the remote! And it was guys like Watson, JH and Mitchell. So that's a big plus.
I look forward to Arup having more finesse on offense and N Mensah to short more in and around the lane. For now, the guards always look for Jalen and that is working but I hope they start throwing it into Nathan more because he has a nice touch. Arop and JH had 7 steals! between them last night. Arop can do so many things already; play defense, rebound, steals and pass. If he adds posting-up and 3's to his game, he will be something.
The only time I yelled at the tv last night (a nasty habit on away games)was when Seiko had an open shot after a lot of perimeter passing and he hesitated too long and the chance was gone and then he kind of panicked and turned it over. Not sure why he seems so damn reticent to shoot unless he is wide open. He can't create his own shot yet.
But the BEST change that I saw in last night's game was when Dutcher called a timeout after only 5 straight points by Colorado State. And it totally worked. He got in their faces, yelled and they went back on the court and turned the game around. Hope we see more of that.

Just like many feared and warned when the program was hellbent on the HCIW idea. Too bad, it was nice while it lasted. Many on this board were hostile against those of us who did not think the HCIW idea was a good one, what now? Do you think Dutcher has been HC long enough to truly evaluate him? Crickets.

LOL! That's because you have your eyes closed! Try opening them! they have been opened They have? Then your statement makes absolutely no sense at all. If, you haven't noticed how much better this team has been playing, especially on the road then I wonder if you are joking, or not really paying attention to them!

I yelled at him from the stands to shoot it during the USU game and yelled at the TV during the CSU game. I'm wondering if he's under orders to pass first, shoot only when there are no other options? But, man, when you're wide open on the arc and the clock is running down and there's nary a defender in sight, you've got to pull the trigger. The basketball gods demand it.

I think it's more likely to be just the lack of confidence that a freshman has. Next year he'd take that shot immediately. Hopefully the coaches will point that play out to him and encourage him to take the shot in that situation.
