Ex-Aztec recruits PG 6'2" Jordan Campbell (Oregon St.) and 6'4" Christian PoPoola (Utah) looking for new teams. Neither one has done much this year in very limited minutes.
Local SD high schooler PG Tommy McCarthy from LaCosta Canyon is leaving Harvard. Not sure how you walk away from a Harvard education.

I count one open scholarship for Aztec MBB. Let's make it a good one. We need guard play for the future and a rebounding/rim protector.
1. Watson - Sr 2. Hemsley - Sr 3. Flynn - Jr 4. Narain - Jr 5. Schakel - Soph 6. Mitchell - Soph 7. McDaniels- Soph 8. Seiko - Frosh 9. Mensah, J - Frosh 10. Mensah, N - Frosh 11. Chang - Frosh 12. Arop - Frosh 13. Open

Former LA POY Devante Doutrive and Frosh at Utah playing under the name Vante Hendrix left the team. The 6'5" 190 SG was recruited by Gonzaga, Oregon and UTEP, before committing to Utah after having trouble making grades. Utah is playing two ex-Aztec freshman recruits, Timmy Allen and Both Gach over Hendrix. He was the #183 player ranked nationally and the #36 ranked shooting guard in the class of 2017. This year he played 4 games avg'd 8 PPG, 3 RPG & shot 45%, 35% and 87.5% before disappearing. Most likely will end up in JuCo. Had some potential if he could get his self organized. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Top-70-2017-SG-Devante-Doutrive-down-to-three-setting-visits-106279139/

We have 2 open scholarships for '19-'20 (with an asterisk)... "showing my math": we are at 12 now, 2 seniors are graduating, & have one commit (Johnson). Assuming McD leaves for the NBA, that would be 3 open scholarships for next season.
Having one scholarship "in hand" right now makes SDSU a key player in the mid-season transfer market.

Doutrive / Hendrix would seem to be a good transfer candidate for SDSU as long as there aren't any underlying issues.

The 2 Sr and McDaniels (will b NBA bound) and a transfer out(my guess Narain). Johnson is 1 so 3 to go?

Narain already used his redshirt year, so if he transferred he'd have to sit a year without redshirting. Since he's already a RS Jr, he'd use his last year of eligibility being ineligible to play if he transferred. So he isn't transferring... unless it's to a division 2 school

agree Nolan is probably on track to graduate by this summer . So could become grad transfer free to chose any school
recruit that got away Both Gach - he chose Utah over SDSU- so he could play right away for a P5 school

Narain was such a big name coming in from La Lu (4-star) choosing SDSU over the Zags. He got here as a 17 red-shirt. Played three seasons here at we had such high hopes. Why is he only play 5 to 10 minutes a game. Has he not improved? If he does leave the Aztecs, I hope he finds the right school to finish up with. He is a likable dude and family had been very supportive of SDSU.

With loose Aztec ties; Abu Kigab is leaving Oregon - 6'7 215 SF/SG. Played HS at Pro Prep with Nathan Mensah (his Jr year.) and UPLAY Canada, Nolan Narain's AAU team. Canadian via Sudan. Kigab, who started his last three games and played in Oregon’s first 10 games, was averaging 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 15 minutes per game. It’s not immediately clear where the 6'7 sophomore intends to transfer. Had offers from VT, Kansas, USC, Baylor among others. Sit 1 and play 2. He's a soph. Stat line is limited www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4278513/abu-kigab

PG transfer to watch Mikey Dixon who was St John's 6th man and was named MAAC Freshman of the Year at Quinnipiac where he averaged 16.5 PPG.

PG transfer to watch Mikey Dixon who was St John's 6th man and was named MAAC Freshman of the Year at Quinnipiac where he averaged 16.5 PPG. Already transferred once, will only have 1.5 seasons of eligibility after sitting out again to transfer, is an East Coast guy... I don't see how or why SDSU would be interested.

Can someone explain how the mid season transfer rules work? They sit out a full calendar year after the completion of any semester in which they were enrolled at another Division I school. So if a guy transfers out after the fall semester he'd be eligible in January 2020. I think it's not always that black and white and guys sometimes can be eligible the following fall with an appeal, but I think that's the gist. Carlton Bragg at UNM is an example of this.
