Does Samson have credibility? www.si.com/mlb/2018/12/05/david-samson-padres-medical-files-marlinsFormer Miami Marlins president David Samson claimed the San Diego Padres kept a real and fake copy of medical records on players, according to the Miami Herald. "The Padres lied," Samson said. "They had an entire medical file on a player and didn’t disclose it. Two sets of medical records is what they had. [Padres general manager] A.J. Preller shouldn’t be allowed in the game. It’s beyond comprehension that he’s still working. They did it to the Red Sox. There are a lot of things you mess with, but you don’t mess with that." In 2016, the Marlins and Padres agreed to a seven-player deal that sent right-handers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea to Miami. However, Rea suffered an elbow strain in his first start with the Marlins and was sent back to San Diego.

While Preller may have had some dirt on his hands regarding what went on, it doesn't appear that Samson was the greatest person ever, based on some of his doings while he was with the Marlins. It almost sounds like a case of sour grapes, in that Preller is still employed as the Padres GM, and Samson is currently out of baseball.

Cue angry response from Aztecryan in 3.....2.....1🌧 Cue someone with too much time on their hands. Not sure why you think I'm the ultimate defender of Preller or anyone else. I call it like I see it. As for the OP, Samson is the son in law of one of the worst owners in professional sports history. Dude is a nut.

Maybe he is right in that other GMs are reluctant to trade with Preller, if that is the case he puts the Padres at a competitive disadvantage and should probably step down.

What Preller did wasn't even all that unusual, let alone illegal. Samson has no leg to stand on when Paddack blew his elbow out 3 starts in for the Padres. Preller just made 3 trades last week, I don't think it's an issue.

Cue angry response from Aztecryan in 3.....2.....1🌧 Ok, this is pretty funny. Not a big Preller fan either. However, as Ryan has correctly pointed out and to answer the OP, once you are associated with Jeffery Loria credibility goes out the window.

There must have been some illegality or there would have been no suspension.

I think the suspension was just to appease the whining ownership of the Red Sox, personally.

Perhaps it was, but he was also reprimanded by MLB for violating international signing rules while with the Rangers.

I'm aware. Again, not something all that uncommon. Most of this stuff is much ado about nothing. Samson's diatribe sounds like sour grapes.

Again, they had to suspend him to save face once the Red Sox complained. They weren't just going to ignore one of the most influential voices in baseball. It's a slap on the wrist, period.

Yes, it is. And if Preller does anything else to run afoul of MLB guidelines, the Padres could end up in the same boat.

I thought the discipline came about from the Pomeranz - Boston situation. Either way, not a huge deal but I found the discussion interesting.

Sounds like he might be doing some wheeling and dealing before the day is done.
