I went to the game tonight and watched a gem by Eric Lauer. He was a 2 out 9th inning 2 strike pitch away from pitching a complete game shutout. He went 8.2 giving up 1 run on 4 hits with 8 Ks. He turned 23 in June. He was one of the Padres 1st round picks (#25 overall) in the 2016 MLB Draft.
ERA Month(s) 10.23 April (2 games) 6.75 May (5 games) 2.76 June (6 games) 1.32 July (2 games)
7.67 (April and May) 7 games. 2.33 (June and July) 8 games.
He has been the Padres best pitcher recently. Being a 23 year old rookie, he is a huge building block.

Nice to see Green stretch him out. 115 pitches. He pitched 122 innings last season, so unlike some rookies he won't be shut down due to overwork (too large an increase).

He pitched 122 innings last season, so unlike some rookies he won't be shut down due to overwork (too large an increase). Must have been a great game to see in person. It was. Standing clapping for the young man to get his complete game shutout and being sat down by a home run, didn't ruin it at all. Taco Tuesdays at the ball park are great. $2.50 tacos!! I had some great fish tacos from Bluefin and a great steak taco from some other upscale place. There are many excellent vendors participating in Taco Tuesday. Steak, Carne Asada, Carnitas, Fish, Chicken...yumm. A friend invited me to go to one of the Dodger games, I picked this one based upon the pitching matchup. Tomorrows pitching duel will be good too.

1.06 ERA in the last 5 starts after returning from the DL.
Right before going on the DL Lauer had 3 bad starts, but before that he had 8 starts with a 2.33 ERA.
He just turned 23 in June. Having a sub 3 ERA next year would not be surprising at all. He is my pick for a breakout Staff ACE of 2019.

So, can someone give the Padres a Blake Snell like breakout next year? If so, is Lauer the man?
