Reyes, after a hot start in the minor leagues is getting a shot with the Padres. He gets Headley’s spot and will join a very crowded Padre outfield.

The timing of this move is interesting. I don't know how many AB's he is going to receive with Renfroe on the verge of a rehab assignment and Cordero/Margot/Jankowski/Szczur/Pirela/Spangenberg being options.

Right, plus Wil Myers is going to get some AB’s when he returns. I suspect there will be a trade somewhere down the line, knowing the Padres it will probably be Renfroe to the AL where he will explode into an Aaron Judge type of power hitter, for a .210 hitting middle infielder.

I don't think Renfroe gets that kind of early hook, but he needs to improve his strike zone discipline. He wishes he could be Aaron Judge lite (Judge actually has a great eye at the plate)....but I think the Padres believe in his power. We'll see what happens. I just hope this isn't a wasted promotion.

The Pads are experimenting bringing guys up to see what they can do at that time. Reyes is hot right now as Jankowski was when they called him up. May as well plus Reyes can work with McGuire and Stairs two proven major league power hitters.

It's not that simple though because there will be 40 man roster complications going forward (Reyes went into Headley's previous spot to avoid the immediate consequences) but so much of these promotions are tied into 40 man roster moves. I can see someone getting squeezed out in the future. I understand what they are doing, but this only becomes a good thing if they give him at-bats consistently.

Andy Green confirmed Margot will NOT be the corresponding roster move for Reyes. Asauje a candidate right now, or a DFA.

He reminds me a bit of Chris Carter, who usually hit 25-40 HR’s, but also sported a .210 BA with 200+ K’s per year. Reyes natural position is probably DH and should be shipped to an AL team.

We have more than one of those types of players on the roster currently, unfortunately.

Sending Reyes off to an AL team at this point in time would be nearly as smart as sending Rizzo off to Chicago was a few years back.
A really terrific front office move!

Reyes hits #5 last night. But would SOMEONE get on base for him? Dude has only 7 RBI.

Another homer for Reyes tonight, this time with base runners for a change. I believe that’s 14 now and on a nice hitting streak too.

Showing better plate coverage and the ability to drive the ball the other way.

15 home runs and 23 RBI. Those are some really goofy stats.
