Current status of our roster, scholarships and recruiting targets. A few notes: - Assume everyone stays through senior year. - Recruiting targets should be guys with reported offers and seem like there is at least some interest from target. - Scholarship count only reflects committed/signed players. **UPDATED 6/19 (Butler commitment)

Current status of our roster, scholarships and recruiting targets. Happy to keep updating this if people like it. A few notes: - Assume everyone stays through senior year (understand Jalen is unllikely to be here through his senior year). - Recruiting targets should be guys with offers and seem like there is some interest from target (left Mobley bros off on purpose). - Scholarship count only reflects committed/signed players. Wonderful. This is signed, committed and offered only, correct. Versus player's of interest? Assumes the two Mobley Brothers are headed to USC with their father.

Correct -- purposely leaving "interest" off and guys we probably don't have a shot at. Wanted to keep it clean and most representative of current recruiting board.

I assume we'll get a grad transfer this year and/or next year but based on what we have now, crazy that we only lose 3 seniors the next two years. We also likely lose Jalen next year (if he comes back) but both Pope and Shepard stayed all 4 years and we never expected that, so who knows with Jalen.

Time to add Both Gach to your Aztec Roster Summary. Listed at 6'6" 170, 33 inch vertical + the Deng League's 3pt champion. Sounds like he can shoot and leap. Could be an offensive boost for the program.

Great to have Edward Chang become an Aztec!
Let's see if the coaches can now land an "elephant" with that last scholarship.

Great to have Edward Chang become an Aztec! Let's see if the coaches can now land an "elephant" with that last scholarship. Dutcher seems to have been pretty clear about holding onto the 13th scholarship into the season in case of a mid-season transfer we might want to go after. Or, I guess... if the 'elephant' you speak of is someone who comes available in mid-August.

Don't have a name that I can attach to that elephant.
Just the idea that the coaches will be looking for a guy that could fall into their laps and really make a difference; even if only for one year. It's great to have such flexibility.

*Updated with Chang. That 20-21 team is going to be a veteran squad -- even without McDaniels (who would be a huge longshot to still be here) as long as guys develop that could be a really good squad.

And/or don't transfer out due to a lack of PT. I think the odds of McD being here in 2 years is about 10%, but if he is....... We're technically set up extremely well for the 2 years. Good mix of experience & youth, and loaded with talent. Not that HS rating stars mean all that much, but our average (per Verbal commits) is 3.3, and that includes Seiko & Arop both at 2*, which IMO is low (I've seen Seiko at 3* & Arop definitely at 3* in others. Even at 3.3 that's extremely strong. Easily the best in the conference, and would rank among the top 4-5 in the P12 as well I believe. Great job by the staff (even a reduced one)!

That's even higher average star rating than Nevada? When counting Nevada's average stars, you're still counting the transfers right? Without looking, it seems like they've gotten some 4* transfers and have that fringe 5* recruit coming in

Without looking, it seems like they've gotten some 4* transfers and have that fringe 5* recruit coming in They only have 3 4* guys on their roster - the Martin's + J Brown (4.7). All their transfers were not highly rated out of HS - mostly 2* & 2.5*; they just turned into good players in primarily lower quality conferences. One thing that's not represented via this type of methodology is experience. A 5th senior who was a 2.5* coming out of HS can be just as good & productive as a 4* FR, if not much more so. Using HS ratings as a barometer it's not close - Nevada is 2.9 on average, keeping in mind they have 14 (vs. 13) players listed, including 9 seniors. I don't have the time to look them up as well, but would guess New Mex is about the same as Nevada.
