It makes sense that all of these rivers come from third world countries. I don't consider India and China as third world but they historically have shown that they do not care about the environment.

Yeah, it is a problem. If your not very developed, you probably are not too concerned with pollution. If you are developed, you probably got there by industry that at the time, polluted.... Edit: And now that you are highly developed/stable you can focus on pollution...

I agree. And at a time when pollution wasn't really a "thing" to be concerned about (I believe).

Sounds like a small step, but U.S. may be going back to paper straws and paper wrappers.

Plastic trash in the ocean is not a US problem. The US creates hardly any. Paper straws suck. US #21 in the world in ocean plastic pollution.

US #21 in the world in ocean plastic pollution. doesn't matter when taking shear numbers of people into the equation. I am at sea for the last 14 days in a row. have seen 100's of Mylar balloons with happy birthday etc...english language. off coast of San Diego. plastic bags.etc. saw loggerhead turtles, blue whales, fin and brydes whales in the area. big deal if you are 21st with millions of people...outta sight....outta mind.
