One aspect of my being born in 1942 is that I, and most Americans born before 1950, never had to ask what was meant by the words "Iwo Jima." Here's a piece that young Americans could learn a lot from. Here's one fact that I, myself, did not know. I had two uncles serve in the Pacific and one of them had an actual photo (not a reprint) of the US flag being placed on Mt. Surabachi.
