He also plays in the mountain west. I'd like to see what type of numbers these guys would put up against our competition.. No comparison when it comes to the Big 10. We be lucky to be at .500 in that conference. Being undefeated or even 1 loss and this is probably a different story. We would be ranked and have a lot more pull when it comes to awards. Typically awards are given to winners. #5 Wisconsin #12 Penn State #20 Stanford Perhaps the next time you see Marshall Faulk in person you should saunter up to him and tell him he wasn't a winner. Fishn' you know I love Marshall and all, but technically, he wasn't a winner of the Doak Walker, nor was he the winner of the Heisman. It's not always right and it's not always fair, but such is life as an Aztec. |

Kansas, Oregon State, Baylor, Cal, UCLA anyone? Plus most play garbage teams OOC. The discrepancy of what Penny has had to contend with vs these guys is not as big a difference as it’s made out to be. |

Saquon Barkley may be a gifted athlete, but he isn't even a top 10 running back this year, let alone a top 3 one.
His pre-season hype way outran his performance; that, and Penn State's O line wasn't very good at run blocking.

Just in case anyone needs a boilerplate for their email, here is what I sent: Dana, I was very disappointed by the news today that Rashaad Penny of SDSU was not a finalist for the Doak Walker award. How can this possibly be justified when he is leading the nation in rushing and all purpose yards? He is quite likely going to run for over 2,000 yards this season. It is clear that leaving him off of your list devalues the award and renders it meaningless. Your team has slighted an outstanding student athlete of sterling character and should be ashamed. These are popularity contests masquerading as "best player, rb etc" to gain more advertisement dollars and viewers for the networks and more publicity for the schools. That is all these awards are and why you will rarely see a G5 school player win.
Penny deserves recognition. Its a total sham system.

Just as the Academy Awards, and the Music Awards, ad nauseam, are self-indulgences for glorification of their members, and self-promotion for their own aggrandizement, there will be only rare and reluctant acknowledgements of those in the non-P5 class. That happens only when a team is unique---as would have been our distinction, were in not for Boise and Fresno.
