Tom Ables will always be the most dedicated Aztecs fan. It's a sad day. He was a true Aztec for life. He will be missed.

Just gasped when I read this. The ultimate Aztec fan. I never had a chance to meet him but always admired his dedication.

This hurts beyond belief. Especially because of the last game he got to witness. Godspeed, Mr. Ables.

Damn.
Well, we all knew that at his age there were a lot more days behind him than ahead of him, but he was such a special person, not just a great fan, but a special person I hoped he might have a few more years left.
He truly was the greatest Aztec sports fan ever, and a whole lot more.
I do, however, firmly believe that he knew just how much we all loved and treasured him. He was one of a kind and he will be greatly missed.
SDSU needs to build something or name something in his honor. He is simply the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

I know how the Boise player that took that hit from Lakalaka felt. This news hit me the same way. It was obvious that we didn't have many years left with Tom. But you never think it will be so soon.
I got to know Tom back in the very early 1970's. I was very active in the Aztec Club and traveled with the team on away games. Even when I was new to the Aztec Club and new to traveling with the team, Tom treated me just like one of the regulars. He was a very fine person. He will be missed for much more than his long time support for the Aztecs.
There will never be a better Aztec supporter. He will be remembered by Aztecs everywhere.
He will forever be "Mr. Aztec."
