Made the cut. Impressive for his first time at the Open.
Makes money and gets experience this weekend.

It's probably an even exchange as Phil Michaelson has mostly likely never heard of you either <s> Actually, the joke's on you, as there's nobody named Phil Michaelson in the tournament....Hello?! Face meet egg...

Looks like the weather will be very mild throughout the day today. I expect the greens will be soft early and firm up throughout the day. It will be gettable, so hopefully Xander can go out and fire a score.
Here's a sampling of the payouts by finishing position (he's currently T-45):
65 - $24,500 55 - $26,400 45 - $35,500 35 - $56,000 25 - $84,000 15 - $141,000
As you can see, it pays to be aggressive to try to move up the leaderboard. Nothing to lose now.

X is -1 for the day, +3 for the tourney after 10.
Speith is yet to tee off and remains atop the leaderboard at -6.

X finishes the day at even par, 70. +4 for the tourney. Tied for 56th place. Bit of a missed opportunity as it was a great day for scoring. Another competitor who started the day at +4 ended up shooting a 62 and is now at -4. 62 is the all time low round at a major championship. My guess is Xander is pretty worn out at this point. He has played a ton of golf this summer with virtually no breaks. Taking a few weeks off and regrouping for the PGA Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs would probably be his best move.

X absolutely crushes it today with a 65, moving him up 37 places into a tie for 14th (so far), and putting him at -1 for the tournament, 10 shots behind leader Speith, who has yet to tee off. Xander's round included an impressive eagle on the 15th.
He has now scored at 70 or under in 14 of his last 16 rounds of golf, which include both the U.S. and British Opens. His only real blemishes have been a 73 at Erin Hills and his second-round 75 in foul weather at Royal Birkdale. Anyway you cut it, that's a remarkable stretch of golf.

I didn't see it coming and he made me eat my words. Maybe he's actually worn out, but that 65 today didn't show it and puts him in great position for a back door top 25 and a potential 6 figure payday. It also goes a long way toward preserving his position in the FedEx Cup standings. I'm continually surprised and impressed by this run he's on.

Great round today following a string of good tournaments. Anyone who plays knows how hard it is to keep your head in the game four days in a row week after week.

An amazing run of golf. So fun to see the broadcast cut to Xander's eagle attempts on the back 9. Great job.

It looks like -- if I'm doing the math right -- he makes $107,000 for a T-19.

Gonna finish T20.
Two majors. Both top-20 finishes.
Speith, BTW, playing out of his mind after a horrific tee shot on 13. Nearly aces 14. Sinks a 25-foot eagle putt on 15. And then bombs in a 30-foot birdie putt at 16

It looks like -- if I'm doing the math right -- he makes $107,000 for a T-19. $104,500 in the end. That will help defray the costs of flying his whole family out for the week.

Looks like Xander is taking, at least, next week off to rest. Good for him.
For anyone interested, I received this email from the club (Bernardo Heights CC) yesterday. We have quite a few new members so an unfamiliar face or two won't be noticed.
