May have already been mentioned in a Phil Steele thread, but since it showed up on ESPN today thought I'd post just in case. They rank SDSU's LB core 29th nationally, which is pretty impressive considering we lost our best LB. Stanford is #2. No other opponents in the top 50. LB Core rankings (insider)

Lot of talented young depth at LB too.

The only non P5 ahead of us is BYU at 17, and the only other ones on the list are Western Mich, Navy, and Connecticut toward the end of the list (of the top 50)

Phil Steele's Offensive rankings QB - WYO 15th, BSU 18th, CSU 42nd, SDSU NR RB - UNM 30th, SDSU 34th, CSU 35th, BSU NR WR - CSU 50th, BSU 51st, SDSU NR OL - UNLV 34th, AFA 44th, SDSU NR
Not a lot of love on the offensive side of the ball for SDSU...
It looks like Steele like CSU.

They are way off in our running back rating.

They are way off in our running back rating. Agreed. Most have Penny as a top 25 back (if not top 20), so unless they're not very high on our other RB's it definitely seems very low.

True, there are not a ton of backs coming back that had something like a 1,250 yards from scrimmage, 8.2 yards per touch and a TD every 11 touches. If you give him DP's touches then he would have ran for 2,600 yards and 28 TDs with another 400 yards receiving and 5 more TDs. With double the touches he had last year it will hard to keep up those rates, but just imagine.

Again, relatively old news but since it's featured on ESPN Insider today why not? Even though Steele has the punter wrong, who would have thought 4-5 years ago that SDSU would be considered 1 of the best ST programs in the country? Ranked #9. If this new kid is for real he may even be a step up from Coutts.
Also interesting how many non-P5 programs are ranked high in the ST rankings (5 of 15). Usually ST's accentuate the depth of a roster, which usually isn't where non-P5's excel compared to P5's.

Maybe Steele sees our RBs as "system RBs"

Lots of scrutiny of Steele (whom is typically the only pub with any merit).
Let the season unfold, as of Today, we are the MWC Champions and Top 25 until proven otherwise.

I'm eager to see which one of our talented recruits from recent classes will be moving up the depth chart.

When you go through his stuff it is clear that he has put in the time. He has several different statistical bases models to look at each team. He talks with folks that write about and coach each team. I trust him way more than most mags.

No one is going to be perfect or close on everything.

They are way off in our running back rating. Rocky Long said Rashaad Penny was the best RB in the country. Washington is very good. How is any team in the MWC better? The OL is going to be talented, but very inexperienced.
