.......fund our lifestyle. www.tennessean.com/story/news/2017/07/07/mls-commissioner-nashville-has-risen-pretty-high-list-expansion-team/457318001/Basically, Garber comes off as a guy that will say anything he needs to in order to get the four bids necessary, to generate $600 million of revenue for his owners. "Others cities in play for the four the MLS expansion spots the league wants to fill are San Antonio, San Diego, Detroit, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Raleigh/Durham, N.C., Charlotte, N.C., Sacramento, Calif., Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla., Phoenix and Indianapolis. Garber has said that MLS hopes to announce two expansion cities, the league's 25th and 26th teams, in December. It's unclear when the next two cities would be announced. " Its clear that they won't say when the 27th and 28th team will be announced, since they are not even sure they will have that many viable bids. This RFP needs to get issued quick, or else I fear we will have to deal with this Soccer City madness all the way into November of 2018.

The longer MLS delays the announcement of who will get the 27th and 28th teams, the better chance of the expansion fee being even higher than $150 million.

The good news is, one of the spots will surely go to Miami. Sacramento believes the 26th spot is theirs, and they have a stadium plan in place. Cincinnati has Mike Brown of the Bengals, it its ownership group, and is said to have a stadium plan. Meanwhile, Phoenix is "extremely confident" they will get a bid, San Antonio is working on a stadium, and now Nashville is in the hunt.
If the land is declared surplus by a supermajority, Soccer City is dead in a few weeks. Just need that to happen.

Basically, Garber comes off as a guy that will say anything he needs to in order to get the four bids necessary, to generate $600 million of revenue for his owners. Nashville just had 48,000 fans attend a Group Stage Gold Cup game. For comparison, in the last Gold Cup, the US drew 22,000 (Frisco, Texas), 46,000 (Foxborough, Massachussets), and 18,000 (KC, MO). That is less Garber "saying anything he needs in order to get the four bids" and more recognizing that Nashville just had an amazing amount of support for a fairly unimportant match.

Eh, that is the number that I have always thought would be perfect. We would love to have the NASL team play inter-league games in our stadium. It would be great for San Diego for San Diego FC of the NASL to play the LA Galaxy or for the US Men's team to play against Mexico at Aztec Warrior Stadium. We will also gladly take the concession, parking, and ticket revenue. Thank you.

I mean, 42,000 would be a lot better than what we have now, I just don't think it's realistic; at least not at first. I'm thinking once we start gunning to release our stadium plan it'll most likely be somewhere between 35,000 and 37,000. Probably closer to 35,000 though.

I think you are right, but my guess is it is around 37,000 fixed seats, then 3,500 SRO and Luxury Box.

If what you are saying is true, it is basically over for Soccer City even from an MLS stand point. We just need the City to declare this surplus and issue an RFP. Then I would actually root for MLS to come to San Diego. They can borrow our stadium any day.

Any time anybody tries to post about MLS here it reminds me of when Ted Cruz said basketball "ring" I am open to being educated on MLS. I only know what I read. But isn't that the way people have been educating themselves on topics throughout the course of human history? Fact: Garber flies around the country saying the same thing to each city, all while not saying when expansiom will even takrnplace. Fact: Meanwhile, many cities (Charlotte, St. Louis, San Diego, and others) are struggling to get Stadiums in place. Like I said, I support a MLS franchise renting Aztec Warrior Stadium 20 to 30 nights a year. Everybody wins.
