I was at the Aztec Caravan event and JD Wicker gave an update on the current status of MV and answered some questions.
Here was the biggest piece of info...
The CSU System and SDSU is prepared to purchase the entire 166 acre Mission Valley site at whatever FMV the city determines.
How do you like them apples!
Go SDSU WEST!
Go AZTECS!

That is awesome.. Money talks around here.. Now the challege will be to get this pesky mayor to be on board.. Since he isnt getting a cut its going to be difficult.. But it would be worth it to SDSU since a stadium is already in place.

"Prepared to" and "able to" are different though. Did he mention the surplus or how we actually will acquire the land?

From the U-T: The 1968 state Surplus Land Act and City Council Policy 700-10 show how the stadium land should be handled. The land is first offered to other governmental agencies for affordable housing, parks, transit-oriented development and enterprise zones. “Specifically, local agencies must provide a first right of refusal to entities” that develop affordable housing, said Los Angeles-based Public Counsel, which calls itself the nation’s largest pro bono law firm. The state law gives qualified agencies 60 days to respond to notices of surplus land for sale and lease, and the city has 60 days to negotiate with the bidders. If an agreeable price and terms can’t be reach, the city may dispose of the property as it so wishes. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/growth-development/sd-fi-surplus-20170627-story.html

He would not have said that in public if the CSU was not able to purchase 166 acres in MV. Remember also that Roush was CSU Chancellor White's right hand woman and he controls the CSU purse strings. SDSU has multiple pathways to get the land and the "surplus land" is one of the viable pathways and frankly would be the easiest pathway right now. It is up to Kevin Faulconer for that to happen.

If he tries to package them together, it will fail. They all need to be separate ballot issues.

Stunning that he would drop this bombshell at a booster event . You'd think they have a BIG deal press conference at Q or announce at the council meeting in July. I'm not satisfied with this but it sure as hell is encouraging. . More coming soon hopefully.

I just cannot imagine the Mayor ruining his reputation even further, and destroying any political capital he has left by opposing SDSU in acquiring the land at this point. He gains nothing in continuing to schill for FS.

There is; he indicated some more informatin would be coming from SDSU in the next couple of weeks when it is ready for public consumption. It seems they are hard at work in this fluid situation.

CSU and SDSU just have announce that if we have the ability to purchase the land we will increase enrollment to (insert high number here) and this will have massive support. Faulconer is Screwed because to continue to support FoS investors he will look terrible in the eyes of every future parent, current parent and grandparemt in town who is worried about an affordable education for their kid.

There were but I did not take notes and he did not take an unlimited amount of questions or he would probably still be there. He did say that there will be more info coming from SDSU in a couple of weeks when it is ready for public consumption. To be sure SDSU is hard at work.
