Cool, time for him to go...at least he had the balls to come out either way this time. So once this and the convention center vote fails he can update his resume.

At this point Faulkner has less influence in SD than the drunk under a lifeguard tower.

Not sure SC failing is a slam dunk, only needing 50%+1... Have you seen any polls on the subject? I agree the convention center measure has no chance...

Falconer picked the wrong side but does show how the council will go.
This thing is headed to the ballot in November.
Pretty sad considering how little he got paid to do so.

Once that starts the polls will nosedive and it will fail.

It's time for SDSU to use eminent domain to take over part of the Mission Valley. No more games.

Not saying it will be a slam dunk, but should this fail that will be three L's that he can put on his resume. He will go down as a failure, and his future political aspirations will be finished. What I find hilarious is the idea that a guy in FS' pocket "would" negotiate a deal that truly is fair for SDSU, then once he "fails" to do so claims the project will go through without SDSU's input. It was always going to be that way, so he can spare us the "we worked tirelessly" rhetoric, he failed SDSU and the city period.

Trying to bite my tongue. But it's just so bizarre. Really do hope SDSU has an actionable plan locked and loaded that will soon be public. But here you have the Mayor publicly telling you the Aztecs will be homeless in 2020 and no one seems the least bit concerned.

From the San Diego Reader: "Since 2009, Oliver and those associated with his OliverMcMillan development firm have given a total of $34,750 to Faulconer political funds, city disclosure filings show" "Masood Tayebi, a partner in the MLS venture, gave the mayor's re-election campaign $1050 in July 2015, and his wife Surinder Tayebi, kicked in $1000 for Faulconer the year before." This is chump change. But if someone is really serious about sending Faulconer on his way, all they will need to do is to look more carefully under a few of the right rugs…

I guess in the absolute sense Faulconer failed in keeping the Chargers here. But we know now the Chargers were never going to stay, so it's hard to say with any honesty that he failed there. In fact, many would say he emerged looking better after that whole ordeal by not giving away the store... The convention center measure will also fail, but hard to pin that on Faulconer unless you fault him for wasting everyone's time with another 2/3 threshold tax increase measure... So we're left with SoccerCity. It could be that some internal polling shows it will easily clear 50%. Who knows? But he's putting his name on this in no uncertain terms when he didn't (really) do so on Measure C. Like they say, never ask a question to a witness to which you don't already know the answer. Maybe Faulconer knows the answer already...

Polling at this point is useless. Depending on the City Council's public perception, it may not even have an election on the proposal for quite some time. This will be a summer long battle, and quite frankly I think FS has already fired most of their arsenal, while SDSU appears to be just starting to immobilize the troops, wich will include a lot of prominent voices in SD and deep pocketed Alumni and local developers. FS offers a tiny stadium, a glorified outdoor mall, and a ton of high priced condos. FS has pointed to tax benefits, a pathetic $4 million a year to the City in 10 years (if the shops & offices are fully occupied), and a threat from the Mayor of shutting SDSU out of the Q... No word on how traffic will effectively made the development usless to anyone not within 5 miles of the development, and the negative effects on buisnesses in the area. Long summer battle, the dirt is already flying, so FS & Faulkner have to try and keep the momentum while getting attacked. It will be interesting to see if they have any other big talking points they haven't used.

Maybe Faulconer knows the answer already... Faulconer was taking meetings with FS about Soccer City which contained space for an NFL stadium before the Chargers announced their Downtown Stadium Initiative. Faulconer will have no political career after this term and probably no career in San Diego if he doesn't at least guarantee SDSU a place to play.

I'm wondering if that statement released today was less of a first punch and more of a defiant Hirshman declaring (to Acee) he's still calling the shots... I wouldn't be shocked to see SDSU come to the table eventually...
