I have always been a big believer in managing one's expectations. Some would say, that's why your nickname is "couldashoulda"...if only you had raised your expectations you would be "didandcan". Might be true, but I can tell you that over my many years I have avoided a lot of disappointment with this approach. I see no reason to change at this point. My expectations are that Jalen will be gone next year and Jaden will be playing somewhere else. If either of those things goes against my expectations, I will be one happy SDSU fan! If not, I will accept what my expectations have laid out. I will root for guys like Nathan Mensah, Aguek Arop, Adam Seiko, Ed Chang and Joel Mensah, as well as the upperclassmen that are HERE next year.
Rocky said something like this a couple of years ago in reference to the early signing period, but I embrace it pretty much across the board...“I think it’s great for us because we get to find out that the kids who are committed to us, they’re really committed or they’re not really committed,” and “I’m sure we might lose one or two in December who say they want to think about it a little bit longer,” he added. “Well, they can think about going somewhere else then.” I love Rocky! Go Aztecs!

Ziegler today San Diego Union Tribune 3/3/19
"How many McDaniels brothers will be on the 2019-20 roster: zero, one or two?
All three possibilities remain in play. Sophomore forward Jalen McDaniels is expected to dip more than a toe into NBA waters this spring, attend the combine and consult an agent, but new NCAA rules would allow him to retain his college eligibility if he goes undrafted. And Jaden, his uber-talented younger brother whose high school career ended Saturday in Washington, conceivably could wait until after the June 20 draft to pick between finalists SDSU, Kentucky, Washington, Texas and UCLA.
So Jalen could go pro and Jaden go somewhere else. Or Jalen would go pro but Jaden come to SDSU. Or both could be in an Aztecs uniform next season, along with a loaded backcourt of Washington State transfer Malachi Flynn and Santa Clara transfer KJ Feagin."

Wouldn't that last scenario be something ? We would really see just how good of a coach Dutch is by how soon he could get that team to gel and play as a unit.

Wouldn’t there be a fourth possibility, Jalen returns and Jaden goes elsewhere?

I'm thinking both are playing for SDSU next year...first, Jalen needs to gain weight and have a dominant year...needs to work on his handles...his last three games against our toughest opponents have been sub par for a NBA draft prospect...good enough for a MWC player...but not elite level stuff...second, just looking and hearing the video of his brother Jaden talking...he comes across as a laid back dude...seems like he wants to be in a comfortable and secure family orientated atmosphere to play ball...how family orientated can it be if your brother is actually on the team?...he also speaks of admiration and how he looks up to Jalen...most of all he listens to him...so I know Jalen is pumping up SDSU...we'll see.... Just have this bad feeling that Jalen is going to go the route of our last few NBA Prospects with two more years of steadily declining mediocrity leading to the "D" League - maybe. If his brother is as good as advertised, he would certainly get plenty of PT right away, with both starting guards graduating. But as far as experience goes, it'd be an even younger team than this year's team.
This year might be Jalen's best opportunity to step up, even if he's not quite ready. I don't think two more years at SDSU is going to raise his stock appreciably, even if his little brother does end up joining the team.

Jalen, with his little brother along with Nathan Mensah is a cast that can take us to March Madness. More eyes on the McDaniels, the better for both of them. It could be a great national story and fun to witness for the press. Jaden might want to do everything to help out his older brother join the Association.

He has the Aztecs in his top 5. That is the only real indication that he’s given.

I can't even imagine how long we would be if he came here. A starting lineup of Mensah, Jalen, and Jaden is ridiculous length at the 3 forward/center positions. To go along with the dynamic scorers coming in at guard, that would be an incredible starting 5

Arop, Schakel and Mitchell coming off the bench - With Narain, J. Mensah, Seiko, Chang and Johnson rounding it out. Such insane depth. Sweet 16 caliber team, maybe better... with so many scorers you could allow the team to create a lot of offense out of just Iso's and high ball screens with the ball in Flynn, Feagan, or Either McDaniels hands. The defense would be so sick with that much length. Imagine if you went with a big lineup at times: Flynn, Arop, Jaden, Jalen, Mensah...

And just a reminder: Multiple mock drafts for 2020 have Jaden going #1 overall. Universally top 2 or 3. Would be the most decorated recruit in school history.

Well, I suppose that it will be both or neither, with no in between options.

JMO What about Jalen going pro and Jaden still coming to SDSU? Seems that is at least a 50/50 chance (being that Jalen is 98% going to the NBA and Jaden likely down to SDSU & UW)
