Apparently, the County, SDSU, and the City met with the Chargers on Thursday. I wonder if they signed the lease before or after? According to 1360 radio, the guy who requested the meeting was Hirshman. Go figure.

The ironic thing is that no one in the NFL wants the Chargers in Los Angeles, but they approved the move anyway. That's how pathetic this situation has become. Both sides (the Chargers/Spanos and the City) have handled this situation poorly for the last 15 years, and it's only gotten worse over the last year. There is room in San Diego for both the Chargers and the Aztecs. The Chargers should be downtown, and the Aztecs should be playing in a new 42k seat stadium on the campus at SDSU West. I suspect that interest in football among kids who would otherwise join Pop Warner and then play high school football will diminish slightly (with no local NFL team to fire up their interest), so that could have a marginal negative effect on recruiting. More kids are inspired to play football by their local NFL teams than the local college teams (especially true in San Diego). Of course, in the south and midwest there just isn't much else for the kids to do, so they play football...

Someone will probably come back and say "that wasn't a scientific poll". But it IS pretty damn funny.

I'm sure San Antonio, St. Louis, or Las Vegas would receive them with open arms.
Spanus needs to broaden his horizons.

Dan McSwain brushed over this HUGE detail in his articel... "That still leaves some pesky state laws to deal with. One requires local government to make suitable “surplus” public property available to schools, parks or subsidized housing for the poor." There are basically 3 ways SDSU WEST becomes reality... 1. 6/9 City council members vote for it 2. A public vote that gets 50% +1 approves it (if ONLY SDSU WEST was on the most recent election/ballot it would have been a SLAM DUNK) 3. The State of CA claims the property for SDSU WEST via eminent domain (SDSU won't need to be this agressive) Here is all the detailed info from the city charter in a thread I started a long time ago... aztecmesa.proboards.com/thread/50457/pathway-sdsu-westGo SDSU WEST! Go AZTECS! Yes this is correct. but: 1. 6/9 wont vote yes. Already know this. It will be close though 2. Might be sold before public vote 3. unlikely that the State steps in and under cuts the wishes of the city Most importantly the City CANNOT just hand over the property to SDSU. Condo city baby. Student housing State undercutting cities happens pretty frequently

Spanos is in a tough position. Given the way he has acted the last couple of years, and the fact that the city will have a pretty meaningful deficit requiring service cuts going forward, means he has zero chance for public $. And it is becoming increasingly clear that while his franchise may increase in value with a move to LA, no one there wants the team and the lack of support may embarrass him and the NFL. Feliz Navidad!

Someone will probably come back and say "that wasn't a scientific poll". But it IS pretty damn funny. If the Rams continue to suck and the Chargers start winning watch how fast the LA fans jump on the Chargers bandwagon. Just like the Clippers. THe Chargers to LA is a long term game. At worst the Chargers come to LA, play in one of the nicest stadiums in the world for 10 years then Spanos sells the team for a couple of billion dollars more than what he would have received if he was still in SD.

Spanus gets coal for Christmas and will likely spend the new year polishing a turd.
A very stinky one.

Good riddens. One of the most poorly run pro teams in all of sports is leaving San Diego. That only leaves one other in the Padres.

Just reverse that. The Rams to L.A. is also a long term game, in that THEY are building a stadium. If THEY start winning and the Chargers do things like they are doing today, the Chargers will be an embarrassment for the league.

If the Chargers go to LA they will rebrand. I honestly think if they rebrand they could be bigger than the Rams.

LOL, keep dreaming. Not with the Spanos clan at the helm. Ten winning seasons since the Spanos family bought the team in '84 and six of those were in the Rivers era. Rivers is the only thing keeping this team competitive and he'll likely be out of the league in 2019. This team could very well be in the toilet by then. They're already pretty close to it right now. On the 15th, if Spanos decides to take the LA option, the best thing that could happen is Rivers announcing his retirement the very next day.

There is no way for the Chargers to recover from the disaster of the last 2 years in SD. Crappy teams, horrible record, and to top it off Spanos has crapped on the City and financial blackmailing of the City is now out in the open.
These last couple of years make the Ryan Leaf 1-15 years look like playoff seasons.

Then I guess they should have voted Yes on Measure C then. The public has already spoken.
