It would've made a significant difference because Hoetzel and Pope would stretch out their defense, forcing their bigs out of the paint. And they wouldn't be able to zone us. But they were the better team at this point in the season. Gonzaga has a very good team this season. Better than when we beat them in 2010/2011.

No they would have only been 2 more AZTECS that Karnowski would have run over!

We held Gonzaga under a point per possession. It didn't seem like it because we played so poorly on offense. Having a full squad would have added a couple of very good 3 point shooters who were tall enough to shoot over the zone. Who know, it could have forced them back into man defense which we played much better against.

Their zone still would have killed us but it would have been closer

No they would have only been 2 more AZTECS that Karnowski would have run over! He was 4-7 with 6 rebounds and never went to the free throw line. The Aztecs held Gonzaga to 26-66 FG and they only scored 9 points from the free throw line. Our defense played well enough to win.

Just watching that game makes me think the Zags are much better this year than anyone thought. We still would have come up short even at full strength in my opinion. We are better than I thought after watching the game last night but still not like the Zags. Maybe we will get another shot at them later and we can stop speculating. Hope so.

no. we couldn't make a pass, much less break a zone for the first time pretty much ever.

Perhaps, I should have posted: "Carnivorous-owski" would have eaten them?

Having Pope as the spear at the top of the zone or in the corner (along with Hoetzel) to hit the 3 in the soft spot of the zone certainly would have helped. We had a number of corner 3 attempts/chances early before the game got out of hand. If we had made a few of those, the game stays closer longer, the team gets some swagger and it could have been a much different game. We also desperately needed Pope's size inside and some better rebounding (Hoetzel). Would we have won? I still say no. Would we have gotten blown out? I don't think so.

No, but it would have been a heck of a lot closer and a much better game to watch.

I just know that Hoetzel and Pope would have forced Gonzaga to get away from that zone. That alone changes the game big time.

Nope - it wouldn't have mattered who would have been in there. The coaching "strategy" would have been the same.

Somehow I think the team being "whole and healthy" may have changed the outlook of the team and they may have had a much more + attitude and may have played it differently. We will never know!

Woulda been closer. But no cigar.
You have to be special to beat the Zags in the Kennel. The '10/'11 team was special. Our depleted team this year clearly was not. And our full strength team isn't yet but may be come March.
Having said that, we saw a Zags team that was/is Final Four good. They might lose only one or two games all season. With any luck we might get another shot at them in the spring.

If you could have changed the venue, yes. Without, it would have been MUCH closer but there's no reason to believe they wouldn't have been off their games in that environment as well.

We would have lost a closer game. We definitely wouldn't have gotten smoked.
The meltdown here would have been even more epic.
