Bey going to Colorado , means need to sign a quality guy that can play the 5 with one of our two remaining scholarships or go the JC / grad transfer routine . Not easy for us to get guys that play the 5 or 4 ? We do have Jaylen that could develop into a 4 or play some 5 , not sure if he has added to his frame , very light at 195? Saw Jaylen on campus a few weeks ago. That dude is skiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinny! With the quality guys we already have ready to play, I could see Jaylen redshirting to learn and have time to slap a little beef on those bones. Kid needs a redshirt bad unless he can play small forward which I doubt. We need him up to 210 at least to play the 4.

I'd rather see him get some experience and be more prepared to contribute next year. We don't know how good he is yet.

Red shirting is a group decision that has to be agreed upon by BOTH coaches and the player . Jamaal nixed it when coaches approached him . Believe he could play in our X game and decision made after that . Coaches can also go over their thoughts with him , as Zylan did red shirt due to injury and Nolan by his choice . Player can also be red shirting then moved to active as needed .
A lot maybe determined if Valentine and Nolan can take care of the 5 spot . Zylan and Max the 4 - With Malik also getting some PT there . Does Teki spend more time at the 3 or 2 ? Same with Dakari ?
Feel confident the coaches and Jalen will work it out

If a kid has any chance of getting meaning PT at any point staffs will error on the side of playing them early rather than redshirting. The most important time of year for them is typically OOC, which is when they usually get the most minutes. I agree with those who say they think he'll play this year.

WA high schools have talent. Good idea for SDSU to keep mining the Seattle-Tacoma area!

WA high schools have talent. Good idea for SDSU to keep mining the Seattle-Tacoma area! 4-star SF Kieth Smith who committed for a few minutes to the Aztecs, only to sign with Oregon went to Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, WA. While McD went to Federal Way High School. Aztecs finding recruits now in Sacramento, Canada and Washington State?

most P5 schools have a decent amount of money to recruit the major areas for recruits along the coast from state of WA down to CA and then into Texas .

as we head towards the early signing time . We have added a PG, SG and SF but not added a recruit that plays the 5 or 4 , and we lose Valentine . Have not heard about any visits during the last 4 months / maybe Spring or JC or Grad Transfer ?

I think the store is closed for 2017. Hope I am wrong. For 2018 I think we will sign 2 bigs 6'9 to 6'10 and a wing 6'4 to 6'6, and a true PG project.

still have hope for spring especially if Valentine or another guy down low has a good season on offense . We could pick up a Grad Transfer ? or ?
What do you see overly optimistic for 5 's for 2018 .? Yes many opportunities but can we get a signed HS recruit

At this point in time I'd guess we are hoping for a grad transfer or going with Leonard Allen as our plan for filling the center spot for the 17-18 season.

It's never a done deal, but there is talk of 6'10 Nate Mensah of Prolific Prep (Napa) committing to the Aztecs. He is a HS Junior. Don't forget about Jalen McDaniel 6'10 and Nolan Narian 6'9 who are on the roster now and will have another season under there belts.
It would be nice to have one of the three local kids commit, Miles Norris, Taeshon Cherry or Warren Washington all PF in the 2018 class.
Other opportunities, Brandon McCoy stays home to get minutes since MI State, Oregon and U of A have log jams upfront. Or we fight with Gonzaga to pick up the next premier PF/C Transfer.
Over the last two season total transfers have exceeded 775 players. We should have options.

Even if we don't sign anyone else, we'll have the makings of a 3 guard starting lineup with Kell, Hemsley, and Watson with Teki, Schakel, and Seiko as backups...leaving the 2 frontcourt positions (assuming Pope leaves) to Cheatham, McDaniels, Narain, and Hoetzel.
