Zeigler is an idiot. This is my favorite and it was very true at the time: “If you hit them in the mouth, they run to the beach.” Rocky Long - 2005, said to Jeff Schemmell in Long’s interview for the open SDSU job. Schemmell chose to hire Chuck Long instead. That was true at the time, but now 11 years later with Rocky leading us, we hit first, and keep on hitting until we wear the opponent out! Quite a dramatic change for the better!

Here is three short fun quotes from Aztec QB Dennis Shaw from 1969. This is quoted from Tom Ables book ,GO AZTECS! printed in 2013.
at West Texas, 1969 {quote] Quarterback Dennis Shaw had thrown two interceptions and Don Coryell was really upset. But, Dennis put his arm around his coach and said, "Hey, that's just two." Then he proceeded to hit Tommy Reynolds for a long touchdown down one sideline and came back to the sideline to advise his coach, "See, there's one." When the Aztecs got the ball back, he hit Tommy for another long touchdown down the other sideline and reported, "Now we're even." From there, the Aztecs went on to a 24-14 victory.

Paraphrasing but close: "Some people are just real stupid." 1980 - Don Coryell ranting on the firing of Claude Gilbert Close to my father's lesson to me, "the world is full of stupid people", (truer words were never spoken), but I got a personal one.. ..when I confronted a bunch of Mormon faithful on their home field as they were basing on Todd Santo's passing record..... "f**k you, eat sh*t and die!"...but ultimately, and sadly, not one of them actually wanted to fight..

There was a great line I recall from an interview with an Aztec player (Leon Van Gorkum comes to mind, but I'm not 100% on that) during the 1969 or 1970 season, I believe it was in the Daily Aztec.
The player was asked what the game plan was for the opponent that week. His response: "On offense, we're going to ram it down their throats, and on defense we're going to jam it up their @ss!" ... and as I recall, they did just that.

My favorite Don Coryell quote, "the country is full of good coaches. What it takes to win is a bunch of interested players" How true!

"Of course no one goes. People in this town think New Mexico is a country and Wyoming is a dude ranch" AF1 - every year. * Ft. Collins is north of Denver. Or south. I forget. * C-Springs is north of Denver. Or south. I forget. * Logan is maybe in Utah. Or Idaho. Or Wyoming. * Albuquerque is way too hard to spell. * Boise is a place where if you win a game, they give you a bowl of potatoes. * Fresno is the biggest hick town in California.

"There's no room for trickery in college football" - Al Luginbill after Air Force beat us on a "Fumblerooski" play (don't recall the year) Are you sure that wasn't Tollner? I always thought it was Tollner who said that but I could've been wrong all this time Absolutely it was Lugie . Never forget that loss as well.

That was pretty much just what we did in the Coryell days. Most people don't remember that the Coryell defensive teams were extremely good. They were a big part of the reason the teams were able to score so much. The defense got the ball back quickly or scored themselves.

After being up on Kansas (at Kansas) at the half, I said to myself, "if we win the second half...we can win this game!"
