What the f x x x is Hair thinking? Wichita State is the perfect addition. They immediately raise our profile as a basketball conference.

Leave it to Hair Thompson to shoot this down....yes we'd be adding another mouth to feed but it's a quality team we're adding. How about we drop San Jose State or Air Force? Then we can add WSU.

Fanhood- how many decades will it take for you to believe that dribbleball is just that?

Air Farce has a lot more influence on the MWC than we do. They are seen as a national brand, although highly overrated as we all know.

Lets see how good Wichita State is at basketball now that Baker and VanVleet are gone. Shockers are usually solid at hoops and have had a good baseball program over the years, but they won't move the financial needle. If they want to start a football program, they'll probably have to start it in the Sun Belt, and then move in once we move up to the P5 or AAC

And how long would it take to build a football program from scratch to D1 level?

And how long would it take to build a football program from scratch to D1 level? 1-3 years. Charlotte - inaugural season was 2013. Began at the FCS level. Play in it for 2 seasons and then moved up to the FBS by joining the C-USA. UTSA - inaugural season was 2013 where they were in the FCS. They were at that level for only 1 season before moving up into the FBS by joining the WAC and then the C-USA Georgia State - inaugural season was 2010 where they began at the FCS level. Spent 3 years there before joining the FBS. South Alabama - inaugural season was 2013. Played at the FCS level for 1 season before joining the C-USA at the FBS level So, it is not like they have to start low and work their way up. If they have the right program and the right plan in place, they can very well have their inaugural season be at the FCS level, or even possibly the FBS level. Those above schools were a fairly weak/inexperience athletic program all together, and they still were able to begin at the FCS level and move up to FBS a couple years later. Wichita State has a very strong athletic program. So, the NCAA can very well place them in the FBS on day 1. But usually there will be a year of planning prior to that. So, if the NCAA today announced that Wichita St is forming a football program and they will start at the FBS level, they probably wouldn't join until the 2017 or possible 2018 season.

We should add Gonzaga, too. Maybe they might want to start a football team.
Sheesh. Stupidest idea ever.
I'm a huge hoops fan. My favorite sport. But football moves the needle in college sports. Nothing else matters. We'd be better off taking in an established football school with the crappiest basketball team known to man than a school with a solid hoops team but no football team.
This Wichita St. talk is gibberish.

Lobos vs Shockers, just another school to beat up on UNM. However, the MW would have 2 top 25 RPI schools.

Some of ya'll need to realize that what is fun for fans and fiscally beneficial to the University and the Conference are not always the same thing, and in many cases are not.
Yeah Wichita State would be fun to play basketball against, but that doesn't mean they are going to add any actual monetary value to the league through the TV sets they bring to the table to negotiate with. And as all the major conferences do outside of the ACC With Notre Dame, unless you have a football program, you aren't joining our conference. Doesn't matter if its Gonzaga or Wichita State, or Villanova.

Doesn't matter if its Gonzaga or Wichita State, or Villanova. Exactly. If they were in a top 40 DMA and already had a semi-established football program it'd be worthy of consideration. But not even a top 60 DMA, and a football program that's 4-5 years away from decency - why bother?
Schedule home & homes in hoops for the next decade, but don't invite them into the conference.

In addition, Wichita State is probably a distant third place in TV viewing in Kansas.

I would happily add them if it meant we could drop some of the dead weight in this conference (San Jose St, Utah St, Wyoming).

That sentiment from UNM is EXACTLY why UNM sucks and is never mentioned as an expansion candidate - an emphasis on basketball to the detriment of football. Same goes for UNLV. Both are going to be left at the station when the train pulls away because of that attitude.
