Terrific article. Love it. Seems like there was a very similar article a few months ago?
We don't have the fancy FOB like Boise (& others), and will never be able to have the bling of the P5's without their money, but love what we're selling. If we can get the new stadium we'll be fine. No place to build a FOB, other than maybe adjoining the new stadium unfortunately. But frankly, sharing a weight room with other sports is what makes us unique.
Believe having the outdoor space for the weight room will also be unique, and separate us from many.

Funny, SDSU's offense is essentially Wisconsin's run-first offense (Horton worked with Wisconsin's Barry Alvarez). The Chargers will be running the same offense next season with their ex-Wisconsin running back and newly drafted fullback (also from Wisconsin).

You know what is really interesting here with our recent success? Back in the 60's &70's under Coryell , and Gilbert we were attacking everyone by air. We only ran the ball when they least expected it. We were one of the leading teams in the nation in pass offense. Then came the great Marshall, and in the 90's we had a very balanced offense. We could rush great, or pass well, to become a very balanced offense. Now, with better recruits we have turned into one of the toughest rushing teams in the nation along with a very good defense. We are winning more now since the 60's, and doing so with determined play. Plus, it usually is proven that good rushing teams that have a great defense can win championships. Yes, a little more pass offense will be of more help, and I believe with Chapman this season we will have a good QB who can complete more passes, and help make us more balanced. So, with all this we could see our Aztecs in a NY Six bowl. Things are really looking up, and I believe.....

They try to spin this into a positive but it isn't good sign.

They try to spin this into a positive but it isn't good sign. It's nothing new. We've known for some time that we don't have FOB's with all the bells & whistles like the P5's, or even Boise & a few others in the MW (& soon CSU). No spin necessary - its old news. Our locker practice rooms are typical of an average G5 conference team, and we share our weight room with other sports, again much like the average MW program and most G5's.
From a facilities perspective we're around average to above average among G5's, yet our success has been way above average. Says a lot about the coaching staff.
BSU has the FOB and the $, and has among the better facilities nationally among all G5's. Again, nothing new. The difference with BSU is they no longer have facilities on par with the P5's like they did a few years ago, as some of the lesser P5's have also passed them by (see WSU, etc.). Hence why they've come back to earth.

Wonderful article. And then they leave us out of the top 25. Smacks head.
Still, I hope the team's competitive nature makes them even stronger this coming season. Like right out of the gate, game one.
A strong start would go a long way in terms of momentum, butts in seats at the Q, and a real chance at being noticed outside of San Diego County.
Spring practices I got to see looked promising - it's a long summer, but a strong competitive nature may now have been built up to the point that it will carry them through until they return for practice in August.

Winning solves everything. That's what the "have nots" haven't acheived yet. We can complain all we want but if you want to roll like the big blue bloods, stop losing to Cal Poly and South Alabama. Beat the Penn States and Michigans at home, PROVE that you belong and leave no doubt.
Duh.

I hear you. That's what we all are waiting, and hoping for this season. But, you still have to admit what they did thru the middle, and end of last season was not something to overlook! I believe if we had replayed the teams we lost to with the way we were playing at the end of the season we would have gone 3-1 in OOC. Possibly even 4-0. This was a completely different team than it looked at the beginning of the season. I still believe they will do it this year.... By the way, what part of Missouri were you born in?

Well if we go to the New Year's Six Bowl we could definitely put the extra $4 million bonus SDSU would receive to good use in our facilities, scholarships and training table. Go SDSU WEST! Go AZTECS!

THe next step for SDSU football is to start beating P5 teams like SDSU hoops does. We don't have to win them all but 50% would be nice.

BSU made their first Fiesta as a financially strapped program. I remember the announcers talking about how a player had to miss practice because his helmet was broken and they didn't have a spare
Hawai'i made its Sugar Bowl in a season they couldn't afford to put soap in the shower
It isn't impossible despite being very difficult to make a big money bowl without resources but it was done twice in the BCS Era.

And the same person won the super-lotto twice. So that means anyone can do it? Every football program at every level wants to win. It's VERY hard to win them all.
