What does "alternate" signify? They only get an invite if there is room or ??

many times it means if some one drops out their spot is filled with an alternate . Is there an order for the alternates ? So there are about 70 invited to the Combine ,who selected them ?. Also are there at least 10 guys from other countries that are being considered for NBA draft ?

Some guys will have to pull out due to injury, while some will back out because they already know they're a top 4-5 pick. So definitely a very good chance a few alternates get included.
The fact Malik is an alternate actually speaks volumes. He'll probably get a couple team workouts, but who gets invited is typically based on the demand from NBA execs. It only takes 1 to convince a kid to stay in the draft, but the fact 70+ others plus Euro's are in more demand would be clue #1.
Funny thing is I bet Malik gets an invite last year. Shows how fickle the NBA can be.
