www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2016/apr/30/tp-connection-urged-for-mission-valley-sdsu-an/Mission Valley community plan is due to get updated in 2018. Some interesting ideas are getting discussed. One thing is pretty clear. There will be no more NFL in Mission Valley. What will likely be in Mission Valley is land dedicated for university use, open space and a public river park. I don't know much about aerial gondolas for use as public transportation and the 60 acre park is two times the size of what the "SDSU WEST" plan calls for. The current San Diego River Park Foundation and Mission Valley community plan only call for a 30 acre park. Go SDSU WEST! Go AZTECS!

Don't be so quick on the "no NFL in MV". Still a possibility the Chargers end back there. IF the Chargers can't get the downtown vote approved, they have the option to push the LA move out one more year and could very well try one last shot at MV. Certainly they are positioning it right now as "downtown or bust" as they would not want voters to have the feeling that there might be another option. BUT should the current plan fail, they will have the option of one last try at MV.

The Chargers will either be in Downtown SD or LA. The NFL and Chargers have moved on from MV.

Thanks Bottom line is we won't know what is going to happen until it does, so don't act like you know. For now all options are open (MV, Downtown, LA) until there is finality.

Even if they do they will not get voters to approve public funding to build an NFL stadium. If downtown fails as a "multi-use" stadium with "no public taxes" what makes you think a single use stadium using general fund public money will pass? In addition, now that the "SDSU WEST" concept (that includes a public River park & low to moderate density transit-dependent development) is public knowledge there will be significant support for that project from the local community & city leaders.

Hey, I am all for SDSU West, but don't think it's gonna be that easy to get folks behind it, I already see arguments about the impact on the local area via traffic etc. Sure there is public transportation for the development, but if you think that an SDSU West campus won't have a HUGE impact on the traffic alone you are not being realistic. The Stadium is a few days a year operation, the SDSU West facility will be a 365 day operation with employees, visitors, vendors, students etc. who WONT use the trolley. This is going to be a long haul to get this pushed through IMO.

This is going to be a long haul to get this pushed through IMO. 'SDSU WEST" is not a new concept and has been explored privately among city leaders, the CSU & SDSU for the past 10 years. Finally, the timing is right for "SDSU WEST" to be presented publicly. I don't doubt "SDSU WEST" will have an impact on traffic in MV. However, there is no other project that could get built on that site that can actually command & control use in perpetuity in a way that would have the maximum economic benefit as well as mitigate the traffic & environmental impact on the community. Unless of course the entire 166 acres is developed into a community park which isn't going to happen. When SDSU gains possession of the property it will take 3-5 years to entitle & prep the 166 acres of real estate. That will be ample time for SDSU & the local community to gather all the input & data to finance & master-plan "SDSU WEST." "SDSU WEST" will take approximately 15 years to build out & thus will have the ability to be developed in a responsible way. No other project, short of a 166 acre park, has this ability. Go SDSU WEST! Go AZTECS!

Potential costs aside, as a Normal Heights resident I love the idea of aerial gondolas going up the north and south walls of Mission Valley. On gameday, I would be able to grill in the comfort of my own home then walk/descend into 40,000 Aztec Warrior Stadium.

I imagined the gondolas going along the river with great views of homeless encampments. Seriously , can't imagine where the parking for the gondolas would be in already very dense north and south rims of valley..
