NO GO AZTECS. I think its Kansas and USC in the Cat Bird seat.
The former five-star prospect, who averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists as a freshman with the Blue Devils, tells Scout he’s narrowed his school list down to Kansas, USC, Miami and Washington.
Today Scout.com Kansas: “Kansas has a terrific tradition and Bill Self runs a great program. I have a great relationship with Kurtis Townsend. They win the Big 12 every year and I know they're going to be in the national championship hunt.”
USC: “I love their style of play. Andy Enfield worked in the NBA, Jason Hart played in the NBA at my position and Tony Bland has been a friend of my family for a long time.”
Miami: “Coach (Jim) Larranaga and his staff are top notch. They've done great with transfer point guards, from Shane Larkin to Angel Rodriguez, so I'm comfortable with what they do. Also their style of play is amazing.”
Washington: “Lorenzo Romar has been recruiting me since the 9th grade. He's always given tremendous freedom to his guards and that's why he has so many guards in the NBA. Also I love coach Romar and Raphael Chillious as people.”
Thornton, Jr. told Scout that he’ll take all four official visits before making a decision.

Going to shut this mess down! I was hoping that we would be in the consideration set. Family friends of Tony Bland, shesh!

Thornton logging miles on visits, why not SD? If Thornton goes Kansas, Devin Watson should come to SDSU.

Did not ever see that he even considered SDSU ? No, but we recruited him before Duke and offered. Thornton finished school early then reclassified and started the season at Duke, but didnt make a huge impact. At USC there is a crowded back court, Kansas has many PG/SG spots open. They are deep in the fornt court.

Duke Transfer Derryck Thornton is visiting KU today, said to be the likely replacement for Frank Mason in 2017-2018. IMO it's between Kansas and USC. If So Cal, the impact on Melton and Mathews could be in our favor.

If Thornton selects USC, it could displace he combo guard Melton, who chose USC over SDSU.

If Thornton selects USC, it could displace he combo guard Melton, who chose USC over SDSU. That would be ironic. Thornton left Duke angry because Coach K recruited another PG to displace him, But now he's considering playing for a coach who will likely displace one of his earlier recruits. As the world turns...

As the world turns... I get what you're saying, but at UW who would that be? Fultz will be a 1 & done - he's expressed that as his goal all along. Thornton would step in right behind him, and Crisp would be a Junior. UW is pretty thin in the backcourt actually. Definitely wouldn't count them out of the picture.
Duke can go out & sign 5-stars left & right, so he shouldn't have been surprised when Duke found somewhere better. It's also possible he believed Coach K told him he wouldn't recruit another PG and thus went back on his word & broke his trust. Happens. It's a coaches job to always recruit over their current players. Kansas could do the same to him - could easily land the cream of the crop. UW & USC are a little less likely to be able to recruit over him, which has to be tempting.
Hoping Thornton does end up at Kansas, and Watson slides to us.

Most likely committing to Kansas, but SC has a shot at him, both need a PG.

The decision means KU still has two open scholarships for next season. Duke transfer Derryck Thornton visited Lawrence last month and still has not chosen from his list of KU, Southern California, Washington and Miami (Fla.). KU also appears to have interest in Mississippi State transfer Malik Newman, a guard who was Rivals’ eighth-ranked player in the class of 2015. KU is one of more than 12 schools that have contacted Mississippi State about Newman. more here: www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/campus-corner/article81582022.html#storylink=cpy

Just in case you missed it 5* Thornton is transferring to USC. This could have positive impact for the Aztecs PG recruits: Jade'Smith & Christan Popoola and 2016 recriut DE'Anthony Melton.

USC will quickly reload . Should put this post on the shut down . Aztecs got Watson / transfer and HS SG/ Seiko Standiego the debate will be those players who are recruited to PG by USC and SDSU and where tone opporunity is in the future, so no to close the threa down but understand the implications on the signing and To keep the post alive too look ahead on our options. Remember one action leads to another reaction.

On the move again, Duke>USC>TBD. Never lived up to his 5-star billing. I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Hut made a play at Fresno State, or at UNLV. True PG, poor shooter from the arc.

How many years is he going to have left? Just this one, played (1) as Duke's starting PG, then sat, played (2) at USC one as a starter. Looking for his next adventure; grew up in LA, HS in LV.

That's what I thought, but then he'd have to sit another year wouldn't he? So that'd burn his year of eligibility unless he went D2
