Sorry if this has been posted, but didn't see a thread. Another WAY TOO EARLY ranking, but SB Nation's has their rankings of ALL 128 college football teams based on a formula which takes into account a) returning production; b) recruiting impact; and c) weighted 5 year history.
SDSU is at #55, which was surprisingly low given what we return. We may be getting penalized due to losing Smith (if that happens) and Price, who had a huge year, but have to think what we lost in production isn't as bad as many. Plus, RB is one strong position for us, whereas a team which lost a stud receiver which has a big drop to his replacement may be penalized much less. They also penalizes big time on 5 year history, which is rather surprising as well.
Within the MWC they have BSU at #36 (best of all G5's except BYU who's #35), us at #55, then USU at #73. Have to think BSU is ranked #1 overall due to 3 things: 1) they return their top 2 QBs & a RB who rushed for most of their yards (rather than sharing as much as Pumphrey); 2) their 2014 season (not last year) and 3) they've consistently been above us (& nearly every G5) in the recruiting rankings over time.
Within the AAC they have #41 USF, then Houston at #53 and Temple at #61. So not much different than MWC. They rank the AAC just above us.
Despite being ranked so low we're actually ranked ahead of several strong programs, including ASU, Arizona, Toledo, Temple, BGSU, Navy, Oregon St, Cincy, Marshall, etc. We'd actually be ahead of 4 P12 teams, and they have us just behind WSU & Cal (48 & 49).
