From Vox, so you can be sure this is not just another right wing diatribe. Indeed, this article is a very informative and insightful examination, not just of Sander's proposal, but of the whole single-payer concept. Lots of questions raised, many of which I myself had not thought of. Well worth reading no matter what your political leanings may be. www.vox.com/2016/1/17/10784528/bernie-sanders-single-payer-health-careAzWm

I was one of the few people who watched the Sunday Evening Dem debate. Bernie made a couple points on his vague plan that were interesting but there is no way it can add up. His pitch to the middle class was that even though your taxes would increase it would be more than made up for by the lack of a need to pay insurance premiums. I guess you would be able to make an analysis for some level of income folks that would work out but overall I see no way the huge tax increases on high income folks coupled with a huge increase in expense due to the overwhelming number of folks at the lower end of the income scale would balance.
The article also asks many questions about what would be covered and who would you have to fight over your individual needs.
Over all Bernie's plan is to vague to really evaluate.

Bernie's plan is simple. Medicare for all. Seems to work OK for our seniors. Even the cons on this board.

Bernie's plan is simple. Medicare for all. Seems to work OK for our seniors. Even the cons on this board. That, to be sure, is debatable. Medicare has plenty of shortcomings. For instance, many physicians refuse to accept Medicare patients. If you think that Medicare is the answer, I strongly urge you to consider the facts outlined here..

It seems clear to me that those on the Left are not interested in seriously evaluating govt. programs such as Medicare. Furthermore, I am very leery of turning yet another important sector the American economy over to people who are unelected and who, at least in some cases (e.g., ObamaCare) rule that they themselves need not participate in programs that the vast majority of Americans are forced to accept.
I see plenty of evidence indicating that America is becoming less and less libertarian every year. Giving control of the American health care system is a prime example of that.

So what? Politicians can say anything because they know Congress will not go along with most of it. As far as Medicare goes, when was the last time you heard a Presidential candidate say he or she would eliminate Medicare? And was that candidate elected? When you spit into the wind, what usually happens?

Put all govt. workers and politicians who are going to retire on SSI and Medicare and they will find a way. As it is now, both programs are broke, or close to it.

Put all govt. workers and politicians who are going to retire on SSI and Medicare and they will find a way. As it is now, both programs are broke, or close to it. There should have never been an 'opt-out' option for government workers. It is now coming back and biting them in the butt.
