SDSU vs Air Force - MWC Championship - 4:30pm - ESPN 2
VS
Stanford vs USC - PAC 12 Championship - 4:45pm - ESPN
SDSU/MWC defeats the PAC 12 in Local San Diego TV Ratings!!! And it's not even close!
SEC 6.1 B1G 5.0 MWC 4.0 PAC12 2.7 ACC 2.2
So much for that BS that the PAC 12 owns the San Diego TV market. And that is football. I guarantee PAC 12 get crushed in basketball TV ratings vs SDSU.
Go Aztecs!

Be sure to: e-mail, text, telegraph that news to Larry Scott and the delusional Pac fans that think they own The County!

I wonder what it would have been if we were on the road and 20,000 people were at home. Would it have made our lead over the pac 12 much larger considering all those people would definitely be watching? Just curious.

And to top it off; the PAC 12 had 2 California schools in the championship game. The Trojans & the Cardinal are probably the PAC 12's most popular teams outside of Oregon. Just amazing! So stoked about these numbers!

This is certainly a ray of sunshine in the cloud of 21K and a national 0.2 rating. It shows that we have a target audience in SD that we can grow.
I guess that pretty much everyone who watched the game on TV was watching in SD. What happened to AFA's national audience?
Go Aztecs!

Those numbers seem pretty sorry to me. The ratings LOCALLY for the LOCAL team are in the middle of the pack among conference championship games and folks are celebrating? Whatever.

Since the San Diego market accounts for about 1% of the country's total, for that .2 to be all from San Diego would mean the rating here would have been 20. It was 4. The .2 was drawn from mostly outside San Diego and Air Force fans probably accounted for a lot of it.

So the Aztec ratings beat the PAC-12 championship game. Is there a PAC-12 team in town I'm not aware of that the Aztecs beat out?
I'd be way more impressed with these results if there were numbers showing that other teams don't dominate their own markets. On second thought probably not. I'd just think they also sucked at being relevant.

The .2 was drawn from mostly outside San Diego and Air Force fans probably accounted for a lot of it. So, if I understand this correctly, about 40,000 football fans (or is it actually TVs/households?)in SD watched SDSU/AFA instead of either the Pac12 or ACC championship. 21,000 actually went to the game, so SDSU has at least 61,000 solid fans in the SD area. About 220,000 people in the entire country saw the game in person or on TV. So more than one quarter of the entire national audience for the game were in SD, a vast majority being SDSU fans. We don't really know the rest of the national audience breakdown of AFA fans vs. SDSU fans, although I would guess that more were rooting for AFA. So, 61K is not as many local fans as we'd like to have, but it is a base to start building on. Go Aztecs!

I think the point is, and this has been used by the PAC many times, that the PAC doesn't need to expand and include SDSU since they "own" the entire SoCal TV market. I think this is what the poster was getting at. Just a guess!

Just imagine the ratings they will draw in LA with 3 times the population of San Diego. It will be interesting to see how many more fans SDSU will gain and how it translates to TV ratings & attendance for the Aztecs when the Chargers bolt for LA.

Awesome news! Great to see the Aztecs win the time slot against a couple VERY good and important games. That's a big win, and a huge feather in our cap for the B12.
I think people forget how many P12 alums live in the SD area, so it definitely tells us the casual stay at home football fan is interested in SDSU, and that is a critical target in the TV negotiations.
Great stuff, and thanks for the info!
