Would be December 26th I believe Yep, but comes down to how they interpret the "5-7 teams". With Nebraska and possibly even Minnesota now "bowl eligible" that allows the BX to fill their bowls, just like KSU & the Cactus.
What we want are the actual bowls like Foster Farms (which would be more prestigious, technically, than Cactus or Vegas) to be able to choose a 10-3/9-4 team over a 5-7 team. Seems obvious, but then again the NCAA is NEVER obvious or intuitive.

Supposedly the bowl bids amongst 5-7 teams are going to schools with best APR's

I thinks it's on the 28th. This is a joke with 5-7 teams getting in. San Jose is awful and they're getting a bowl.

They've included teams with losing records in the past, although usually 1-2. When you add 2 more bowls it's bound to happen that more losing teams get in. Why they hadn't prepared for this months ago is beyond me!
Some are fighting for bowls to "go dark" if their contract doesn't support having winning teams. I doubt that happens, but hopefully from this we'll see some of the lesser bowls go by the wayside.
SJSU getting in does seem pretty ridiculous, and doesn't do us any favors UNLESS they actually make money on their bowl (which is doubtful). Then we'd all get a piece.....

They're "on the list" just as every 5-7 team is now but the pecking order is based on APR and I believe SJSU is something like 6 or 7 on that list.

We really need South Alabama to take one for the team and beat Appalachia on Saturday!

Believe they're tied for 4th in the priority list, but with Missouri saying no they move up to a tie for 3rd behind Nebraska & KSU. They're tied with Minnesota, and ahead of Illinois & Rice.
If they need 5 their odds are pretty good. If USA wins, or some other 5 win team does, then their odds are less favorable.
PS. I do believe the initial rules said you only needed to be in the top 5 of APR to be eligible, so that would mean they could pick the #4 team over the #3 team if they want. Not sure if that's changed or not? But Nebraska & KSU are set - guaranteed, so SJSU is right there.

Further evidence of the P5 over G5 . Bowls prefer a 5-7 P5 then most G5 schools with better records . Very important for the MW to make sure its better teams get best Bowl available , before Bowls just take MW teams they want .

Yes, you're correct about SJSU's place among the APR eligible 5-7 teams. A write up I saw yesterday had those teams listed alphabetically and SJSU was last. I just found the ESPN article that has them listed by APR and SJSU was indeed fourth (third after Missouri bowed out). I didn't however see anything that implied the top five could be picked in any particular order. That article implies the teams get first crack based on their APR score order but either way it looks like SJSU has a good chance.

The move to allow 5-7 teams conditional bowl eligibility is out of necessity otherwise one or possibly two bowl games wouldn't have had participants. Again this isn't exactly new. 5-7 teams have been granted bowl eligibility in the past: Georgia Tech (2012), UCLA (2011) and North Texas (2001). The fact that they decided to use APR as a qualifying condition actually could have benefited smaller conference teams. Heck do you think San Jose State would have even been in the discussion otherwise?

I would love the Foster Farms Bowl. It's one of the few bowls I could actually go to around my work schedule. Cactus is a maybe. Poinsettia with a 1:30 kickoff slight chance. ( had a better chance with a later kickoff. Bad move changing the time.) The rest I'm shut out on.

It is all about selling tickers. Nothing new. We sell tickets we move up. That simple.

Bowls look for fans that will go support their team and TV audience they think they can draw . Aztec fans would be able to go to CA or Arizona . maybe Las Vegas . Also who we play comes into play . P5 school ? that is why BYU - has strong following and schools from Midwest - as they look forward to head to the West in December get selected for Bowl games
