I ask this in all seriousness. Why are there fans that rip our team, coaches and programs at every opportunity? I have truly never understood it? I have followed Aztec sports since the late 60s and I just don't get it. If you aren't a fan, go away. If you are a fan, how could you rip the players and coaches that you supposedly cheer for?
I understand frustration, criticism, analysis, second guessing....I get it all. I DONT get the absolute joy that exists for these fans when we lose. It makes no sense. My only guess is that their lives are so empty that they get some happiness in others disappointments. Very sad and strange people who do NOT deserve the privelege of being Aztecs. Meanwhile, we got our butts kicked tonight. I do think we are lacking some of the toughness that the transfers have brought us in the past. Guys like X, Josh, JJ, AQ, Malcolm, had a certain toughness that rubbed off on the others. This team has highly recruited guys who haven't experienced the adversity and I think, lack some of that toughness and refusal to lose. Keep on working and let's get a road w on Tuesday!

You hit the nail on the head. You've been watching since the 60s.

Happens in every board where the college team is competitive. It'll never stop.
Interestingly enough, there are posters in those boards, who make threads like this also.
It is what it is.

Because we has fans have the right to complain. I've was there at the end of smokey and the brandenburg era and then trinkle. But this team lacks a leader and heart this goes back to coaching. I love coach fisher for what he has brought to the mesa, but the last two years have been hard to watch. I'm really worried these kids are not buying into his system anymore.

Its called criticism when it is justified. Plain and simple. When a team is being built up as perhaps the most talented(certainly highest recruited) team of all time and they fail to live up to expectations, there is going to be criticism. Some justified, some not, but it is certainly going to be there. It goes with the territory. Trust me, as a true fan, no one takes pleasure in watching this team lose and fail to live up to expectation's. Frustration just tends to boil over by all the mishaps being shown out there, and losing to teams like Arkansas Little Rock that you should no doubt manhandle had you prepared and been up for. When you see a team going through the motions or flat out quit in certain instances, criticism is not only going to be there, it is also going to be justified. All part of the passion of the ups and downs that comes with being a fan. If there was no passion or care about your team, it would simply be apathy, and therefore no one would care.

Are you kidding me? We went to round of 32 last year and that's hard to watch? If that's so hard for you, why watch? Go be a fan of USD or San Jose or Fresno. That way you won't have to be troubled with the round of 32.

It's been happening for years, with different posters, and it's not criticism, it's crappy belittling that serves no purpose other than to make those posters feel superior.

The most critical remarks will be from guys who've probably never played beyond rec league pick up games, who are living vicariously through young men with actual basketball talent.

sports is most fun when experiencing the moment. and the as that moment gets split into fractions of excitement it is more enjoyable. meaning if you say "I saw the game last night and it ended 50-45 with aztecs winning," that is less exciting than saying "the aztecs were losing in the first half and came back to win in the 2nd 50-45." the more you parse out the game into quarters and then individual plays the more engaged you are.
how we experience social media and the 24hour news cycle has magnified this parsing of moments. it dictates how we engage before the game, during the game and after the game.
before the existence of message boards/twitter/snapchat/etc one would witness an event and have time to process it and form an opinion and deem it worthy to share. now the instantness of voice and reach makes thoughtful contemplation less prevalent.
somebody posts a vine of a somebody getting crossed up and everyone responds with an emoticon. instant sharing of an experience and instant reaction without criticality or context.
it's natural that we share our pessimism quickly without seeing the larger picture unfolding. pessimism is more volatile and engaging than even tempered posts. it's like reading the bleacher report. or maybe it's kinda like politics. message board members appealing to feelings of fear and anger is just easier for people to post, especially early in the season.

Some reasons.
People like to vent after losses so they come to these boards. There should be a 24 hour rule where you can't post for 24 hours after a loss.
Posters like to think they know more than coaches. They don't.
There lives are pretty meaningless and boring and so they live vicariously through a sport's team. When they lose they take it personally.
I could go on, but you get the point. LOL.

You'd be surprised. Usually the most critical have played competitive sports. Sure they have. I can agree with you though if you're counting beer league softball, Pop Warner, NSSA surfing, and all the others who made a high school roster but weren't good enough to play at the D-1 level. Pick your all-star team from the negative posters here and challenge the guys on the MBB team who rarely get to play in a game. They'll smoke you, and then you can criticize your teammates for letting you down. On second thought, it doesn't have anything to do with previous athletic prowess. Some folks are just congenital haters and get off being negative. Enjoy your lives, rooting for that next Aztec loss that will validate your existence.

The price of SDSU basketball tickets have come up, A LOT. From a financial standpoint, it's not a good investment to drop that kind of money for the quality of product that's on the floor.
If you don't like the complaining from folks who purchased these tickets to watch SDSU lose, why don't you front the cost?
Oldie Out
