I just can't see the true on campus stadium ever happening . Too many problems to overcome. Not the least would be no parking. But the real problem would be law suits that would stall it into the 22nd century. Do we need to rehash the arena nightmare?

Mission Valley has been the primary target for SDSU campus expansion for years; since Mayor Jerry Sanders at least.

Why would we want to relive that? No parking? Are you serious? There is parking all over the campus. sunspot.sdsu.edu/map/sdsu_map.pdfIf you don't want State to build a stadium, then just say so, these red herrings are embarrassing.

Right, the arguments against an on-campus plan are only distractions, and can be almost completely mitigated. The legal precedents set by winning the arena fight would help with a stadium, and if the choice were Alvarado Canyon there wouldn't even be any residents with standing to sue, since very little traffic would pass through any neighborhoods. It could be done.

For everyone clamoring for more students to attend games and to have a true gameday atmosphere, the best place for a stadium is on campus, whether there is a MV expansion or not.
If SDSU really wants to do it right, they'll find a way to get it done.
It's the same deal with the Chargers stadium. If they really want to do it right, they'd do it downtown with a combined convention center expansion. The reason the mayor has to back MV is because he has to follow the NFL's timeline but it's also because it's much easier. Not necessarily the best location though IMO.

It could be done. It's not that it can't be done it would just be much more difficult and take much more time due to litigation. Jim Sterk himself has readily admitted this. If Viejas had not been built on top of Aztec Bowl that would be the primary target. But as of now MV is their #1 target as has been made apparent by all the recent articles.

Monty - take a deep breath here. Are you alright? I know we now suffer non fans here. I am not them. Got it? Here's the deal- the real hope is MV for all the big reasons Mentioned previously. It would be an alliance of many stakeholders . Your vision of on campus is not realistic and no one at SDSU is seriously proposing same. Ignore the insurmountable problems if you choose but our best hope is the MV campus with all. that would entail . Let's all be on the same page and pull together to make something happen in our lifetimes.

Viejas successfully survived court challenges despite its prospect of three dozen men's and women's basketball games every year, most of which were to be played on weeknights. A football stadium would bring in 40,000 people on six Saturdays per year, with plenty of lightly used (on weekends) parking lots and garages scattered all around campus.
Motorists wouldn't have to crawl slowly through miles of residential streets to get to their parking spaces, as they willingly do in other college towns (Ann Arbor, Palo Alto, Pasadena, Berkeley); at SDSU they would be parked and walking to the stadium in relatively short order, no matter which site were chosen.
And the school and city could be counted on to encourage heavy use of the trolley, which wasn't an option when the arena was being debated. If 10,000 people arrived by trolley, a number the Padres achieve regularly, the auto traffic issue would become manageable. Then offer tailgaters free parking if they arrive, say, three hours before kickoff, or if they come four persons to a car. There are things that can be done.
The university bought the Albert acreage several years ago, but has so far said nothing about what they intend to do with it. We're free to guess.

Where do I donate so they can name a seat after me and I will have the honor of people sitting on my seat for many years to come? Start the fundraising now to send a two-fold message: 1) If the City/County/Chargers are serious about a new stadium they need to understand SDSU wants to be a meaningful player because we have alternatives and 2) Get the support rolling now, look at what the general fundraiser made.
GO AZTECS!!!
PS I graduated in 1976, I would like to see the promised land before I die.

"The San Diego State University Aztecs football team hasn’t played on campus since 1966. And there’s nothing left of the old Aztec Bowl but the decaying stone terraces behind Viejas arena that once held the bleacher seats.
Longtime Aztec football fan Tom Ables sits there, on the east side of the old stadium and points to the opposing seats, which now enclose a parking lot.
“Oh it was a great place. It was fun,” Ables said. “And you can see what a great spectator stadium it was because the first seats, you had elevation. You weren’t down on the ground. And you were just a few feet from the sidelines. You were really in the game here.”As someone who was SO opposed to gutting Aztec Bowl for a basketball arena, when there were other options, including remaining at the Sports Arena, this part of the article is all that matters. The shortsightedness of the then administration is still a craw in my butt. Where I live, even Weber State has an on-campus stadium, so as far as I'm concerned who/whatever is willing to fight and pay for an off-campus stadium on city property, (in other words, business as usual), knock your self's out. (Yawn). Go Chargers!!! :rotflmao 2003- At least you're consistent
