I think there's an outside shot to play in a Jan 1 bowl game if we win out.
If Houston beats Navy this weekend, then Houston will win there division in the AAC. If UConn bets Temple this weekend, then either Temple stills wins their half or USF could, but either one of them will have 3 loses on the season. Its better for us if USF wins their half, plays in the championship game and then beat who ever they play as I think we'd definitely be higher ranked than USF. If Temple loses this weekend, but still wins the division and then wins the championship game over Houston, we may be ranked ahead of them.
Also probably need Toledo to lose to Western Michigan this weekend.
Depending upon how the AAC does this weekend, it'll be an interesting 2 weeks.

No, they can not.

Yes, they can.
You can only play if you are a conference champion so if USF wins the AAC and either Bowling Green or NIU wins the MAC and we win ouy with a victory at AFA then we would for sure be the highest ranked champion.
That is a lot to happen, but it is possible. Like 5 in 100.

Don't see it. I wish I could. We're a blip on the national radar. A growing blip, maybe, but we aren't in any conversations that way at all. USF has been very impressive the last few weeks and would deserve the nod if they win the AAC. Or maybe Toledo, if they finish strong.

Toledo is ranked 24th.
Need about 6 things to happen. Won't happen. Would be about 2 or 3 if not for the South Alabama game.

Holy crap, I didn't even think this was a possibility but now that you mention it. It's definitely possible. A win against Nevada and a nationally televised game at airforce just might be enough. Imagine this narrative. Sdsu has gotten a few suspended starters and inured players and have been on a roll since. We'd have to sell it, the university and the mwc would have to push that agenda hard but should be an easy sell. If things play out you're looking at a team that's 9-0 since getting players back and with a record of 10-3. That would be huge!

A two loss WKU team with a high powered offense would certainly be picked in front of us, and deservedly so.

Cuz we're pathetically optimistic and convince ourselves we have a chance lol. Like coach fish said. You have to dream it before you can achieve it. I BELIEVE!

The Committee picks the highest ranked G5 team in their top 25, NOT the top 25 of any poll or computer ranking system.
If there is no G5 team in their top 25, then they evaluate all of the G5 conference champions, BUT their selection criteria is very vague - they do not have to adhere to polls or computer rankings, and they can use pretty much anything they want.
That said, Boise Aztec is right, it "can" happen but it's probably at about 100 to 1. It is most likely that the AAC champion will be in the G5 top 25; after that, Toledo in the MAC is alive and well after Northern Illinois lost. If SDSU had not lost to South Alabama, it's still probably only about 25-1.

No. But we can beat the top ranked G5. Whoever it may be.

OK so to summarize, is this what I am rooting for?
1. SDSU wins out 2. Marshal beating Western Kentucky 3. LA Tech/USM beating Marshal in the C_USA final 4. USF winning the AAC (Houston-Navy doesn't matter- USF has to win) 5. NIU winning the MAC (don't they have the tie-breaker over Toledo already?) 6. USA winning their game and becoming bowl eligible?
Is this right? It's not totally out of the question.

Also, if Temple and USF lose this week then if either of them beats Houston/Navy that should take care of the AAC.

From k5james on a z t e c s f i g h t.com Week 13: Watching/Rooting Guide Obviously the big one is to root for New Mexico to beat Air Force so we can host the CCG. Should the likely happen and AFA beats UNM though there might be a silver lining. Air Force has creeped into the "receiving votes" section of both major polls. If they win Saturday there's an outside shot that they'll be ranked which gives us a chance to beat a ranked team late in the season. This open the door for talk of the Access Bowl. It's an extremely long shot but here's who we need to root for in this weekends games to crack open the door for us should AFA win... THURSDAY South Florida @ Central Florida 4:30 PM FRIDAY #15 Navy @ Houston +1 9:00 AM Marshall +10.5 @ Western Kentucky 9:00 AM Western Michigan +8 @ Toledo 9:00 AM Boise State @ SJSU +7.5 12:30 PM SATURDAY Southern Miss @ LA Tech -5.5 9:00 AM (This one really doesn't matter but LA Tech already gave WKU a tough game @ WKU) South Alabama +21 @ GA Southern 11:00 AM Penn State +11 @ Michigan State 12:30 PM BYU @ Utah State +3 12:30 PM UConn +12 @ Temple 4:00 PM ASU @ Cal -4 7:00 PM ULM @ Hawaii 8:00 PM MUST HAPPEN WOULD BE NICE
